Hmm... I would say until you get some experience under your belt, you'll definately wanna play limit. I would only play a no limit 5-stud game if it was REALLY juicy. You've gotta find some major fishies to pay you off when you're "immortal". (Yes, I'm borrowing an ATE term, haha.)

I haven't played any no-limit, but a little bit of pot-limit. The big strategy differences are:

Low pairs aren't anywhere near as valuable. You never wanna risk your stack on a pair of 6's.

Unlike hold'em, you welcome draws. If you can get 2 people to pay 6bb trying to make a straight, awesome! No need to push them outta the pot.

Don't ever slowplay anything, ever. You slowplaying those split acesis going to kill you. Don't ever think about doing it again, or I'll hunt you down. Seriously though, barring an INCREDIBLY ACCURATE read, slow-playing just doesn't make sense. There aren't enough streets. There will never be a time that you have a nearly un-beatable hand on third street where everybody doesn't see the strength of your hand. For example, say you have split jacks, and then you hit another jack on third. Now your board looks like this:

[X} [J] [J]

That's a pretty scary board. There's a very low chance that anyone will give you action on fourth, unless they hit a higher set. Suppose you slowplay this, you check it down on third, they hit two pair on fourth and bet into you, now you raise big, even though they have a pair showing. Doesn't take a genius to narrow down your hole cards. Other scenerio is that you bet a smallish ammount on third to get a call, he hits two pair on fourth, raises you as he still thinks you're on jacks, and now you just stole his stack. Good job!

So yeah, don't slowplay in this game, barring a terrific read.

Never go all in with anything weaker than two pair, UNLESS you have a hand unbeatable by their board. Say you both check it down to fifth street, you hit your ace for a board of

[X] [3 8 5 A]

And he hits his king for a board of:

[X] [7 9 3 K]

Then, if you can get him all in, power to you, as you have an UNBEATABLE hand.

Most of your profits in this game will come from other people's mistakes, so table selection is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE. If you sit at a table where everyone is even relatively decent, your profits will be miniscule, if you aren't in the red. Take notes. You need to find the people who will call large bets with vulnerable hands, and get on them like a hobo on a freaking sandwich.
