Poker is silly.
It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

Piers...any reason you only play 1-2? Bank roll issues?
I am not a very experienced Stud player at all, but I found that the 5-10 games on Stars are easily beatable. I don't have PTS to back me up, but I know I am a winner at that level. I even played a bit of 10-20 and it was not insanely tough IMO.
Maybe I was just lucky, because I haven't played a ton of Stud. But I really think that all the good poker players are playing NLHE.

Pretty much any hand I play with the exception of lower flush draws. Live overcards, small pairs with overcard to board, big pairs. In a high ante low limit game I am a non stop raising machine generally when I am in a pot.
