The bluff call

Postby AdamtheExpert » Sun Jan 16, 2005 4:28 pm

Anyway, although this play will NOT be very useful, in your poker careers, like the LAST one I discussed, it does teach you how to use your noggin, to think up great poker plays.

This play, can only work, in B&M games, so again, many of you will not be able to use it.

Allright, back in 1993, I played a lot of a high-low draw game, in Rancho Cordova California. This game had a DOUBLE qualifier. Nine or lower was low, and ANY pair was high. So, if you had something like 2 3 4 5 King, you had a "no qualifier" or "no Q"

If everyone in the hand had NO Q's, the pot would be split.

Now, enter Air force Rick. Air force Rick had a trait, that's very rare in poker, but can be used to great profit, when you encounter it. You see, when Rick was bluffing, and got called, he would just SOUP his hand into the muck, without bothering to show it, and she what you had.

Again, this is rare, but does happen. Frankly, I often wonder when someone bluffs with a HOPELESS hand (like Jack high) WHY THEY BOTHER SHOWING IT! But, most do.

However, Rick did NOT, he just threw it away! So, ATE decided that If I missed, and had a NO Q hand, I'd call. If he was bluffing, he'd throw the hand, and I'd win.

Now, some $#^@#$^@$#@$W AMATURES, seem to think that you should "Raise 'em, if you think they're bluffing" And, this does have it's place, when there is a potential overcall behind you. (That'll be another article)

But, when you encounter a "thow it when they bluff" type of person, you do not have to raise. If they have a real hand, you lose two bets. If they don't, they will just throw their hand away.

God, this play is so much fun, when it happens.

Now, usually Lowball is about the only game where they do it. This is because when someone makes a big pair, say 7's, they have almost NO chance to win, and when someone CALLS, well, they have ZERO chance
(unless someone knows about the bluff call)

But, occasionally, ATE HAS seen people in hold em, soup their cards when they are bluffing. So, if you have missed your straight, and have, say

seven high, you can call these players, and watch 'em throw there cards into the muck, if they were bluffing.

Make sure you have observed this tendency, at least a few times, before attempting the play.

Sorry, that this won't be that useful, but again, I want to teach you how to think, and learn the game of poker.

Poker is NOT just about "play this, throw that" Oooops, I guess I said that. If you want to get goooood at no limit and pot limit, you will need as many tricky plays as you can get . . . . .AND THE SKILL AT KNOWING WHEN TO, AND WHEN NOT TO, APPLY THEM.

Begginners, should NOT attempt tricky plays (here that, KELLER) and it's important for you to know that. CERTAIN other authors, are found of writing about advanced plays, but don't warn the new players NOT to try them, without extensive experience.

Now, if only I could think of a way, to tell everyone about my new website, without violating my rule about mentioning other sites, on someone's site . . . . . . .

Ha ha, I don't even know the adddress yet. Just had a fan set if up for me.

Adam the Expert, can now be found on Poker stars, in a variety of games and limits. However, since I'm a nasty bstrd, I got my chat turned off for a month, so please don't try to talk to me yet.

An interesting secenario to say the least. I would love to do this trick in a holdem game sometime. I think I'd tell that story over and over again.

Uh, gang, this is a CLASSIC play, and although you will rarely get the chance to do it, I would have apprecitated a few more responses.

ATE did NOT start out as a poker genius, but I became so, by excersizing my brain, and learning how to come up with clever plays.

I hate to use a common expression, but learn to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX
