Auto rate priorities

Postby BenKT68 » Sun Jul 17, 2005 12:50 am

Excession - your guide and tips are very valuable, thanks a lot for your effort with pokertracker. I do have one question/concern right now regarding your autorate strategy. I have no problem with the stats used to rate opponents, but I am wondering about the priorities.

If the calling station is given a priority 1, it seems like there are VERY few of a lot of the other categories in my database (3500 players so far). However, I tried to change it to no priority, and it pretty much wiped out the calling station icon.

Does anyone have any tips about priorities across all rated categories based on excession's rating system? Any advice would be great!

Thanks

The idea is to highlight (in this case) the truly horrible players like the calling stations and showdown muppets.

When PT auto-rates "priority" categories, it finds players first who meet the "priority criteria." For example, a player who is sLP who exhibits the characteristics of a CS will show up as a CS. Likewise for a LP player. You definitely want this. A calling station will call your bet to the river and pay you off, while a sLP or LP may check/fold more often.

To wit:

A player with a VP$IP of 28%, and a PFA of 0.9 will be a sLP. If that player also has a WtSD when saw flop of > 34%, they're a calling station. The priority basically siphons out those players who will not only be passive, but who will be passive straight through to the showdown.

Showdown muppets are similar. These clowns will go to showdown with lousy hands and expect them to hold up. They'll bet bottom pair in a heartbeat.

In my limit rules, CS's are the largest group, followed by the neutrals (which catch all the non-SM/CS passives, and non-aggressives).

Hope this helps.

THANKS

Tiburon, thanks for clearing this up for me.

It is comforting to know you are getting a lot of calling stations showing up as well, I guess I can't complain about that!

I put the priorities back to the way that excession set them up (with CS having priority 1) and it seems like it is necessary to filter these players before analyzing the rest.

Good luck!

You know, I didn't even notice that Tim. Listen to Tim--he knows those auto-rates almost as well as Andy (excession), and damn well better than me!

The CS is actually priority 2, and you'll still get a bunch of them, but that's a good thing, believe me!

Is there a way to automaticaly import the auto file? I tried saving it as a text file and said it was not a valid rules file.
