Prima Poker skin
Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo Ring game

10 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $4.61

MP2: $10.75
MP3: $1.40
CO: $1.89

SB: $12.05
BB: $11.80

Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is MP1 with [Ah] [9c] [2h] [Kd]

Turn: [Jh] ($0.65, 6 players)

River: [Qh] ($1.65, 5 players)
UTG checks, UTG+2 checks, Hero bets $1.65, 4 folds.
Uncalled bets: $1.65 returned to Hero.

Results:
Final pot: $1.65

I get this situation reasonably often, holding the nuts and am checked to, and am never sure how to play it. Sometimes I pot and sometimes about 1/2 pot. Neither way seems to produce consistant calls. What do you prefer to do here?

pot and hope for someone with a k high flush. at this level, they don't always drop it for a pot bet. sometimes they raise. their betting shows weakness the whole time so they probably don't have much so just go for it. If they won't call a pot bet, they will not call a 1/2 pot bet 90% of the time so just bet and hope.

You can sometimes use this to your advantage to steal pots - if you're at a table where nobody will call a pot-sized bet without the nut flush, you can from time to time throw one out there with a bare Ace in the flush suit. You don't want to do it all the time, because people will start to get suspicious, but it's a nice way to mix things up a bit.

i suggest not using the bare ace bluff except if you KNOW there is a good chance people will fold. many most, especially at the low levels so getting fancy often throws away money. These people love to throw away money with crap hands so let them.

On a side note, i'm not a big plo8 player but what do you guys think about raising the turn?

yeah, bri, i'd probably raise the turn given that i have TP in addition to the draws. you can only really expect low draws and str8 wraps to stay in, and the TP and flush draw will help in the quartering dept.

as for the bare Ace flush bluff... i don't recommend it as a general rule at lower levels (even higher ones). people will often call with ANY flush unless you can make them play for their stack. even then, some will call down. this is the beauty of lom-limit plo8, but it also takes this play out of the arsenal for the most part.

I would bet the pot on the flop, and then probably be willing to do the same on the turn. On the river, bet however much you think will get called. I would recommend about 1/2 of the pot, but betting more or the whole pot is fine too. Either way, don't 2nd guess yourself too much in those situations. I may be in the minority, but I don't think there's some magic inflection point where you would have gotten called for a 5/8 pot sized bet but your opponents are folding tor a 3/4 pot sized bet. It's more about what your opponents hold than the amount you bet, and you obviously have no control over what they have. Sometimes you'll bet less than the pot and get called by a hand that would have called more and sometimes you'll bet the full pot and everyone folds, but they would have done the same regardless. There's really no way to know, so just pick a bet size and go with it.

Pot the flop, You have draw to nut low with pair of Kings. Pot the turn, You have draw to nut low and nut flush. Pot the river. I think you definetly have to pot the the flop with top pair and nut low draw to get crap out and money in or take it down. Also by potting flop when the river misses low and gives you the flush it may appear to some like a desparation move on a missed low and you may get a call, this is only possible because the flop hit you good and the turn just made it better. I find hands like these as some of my biggest winners but you have to bet the flop to make anything. At this level and stack sizes there is no need ,imho, to figure what they will or will not call.

I appreciate all the input. I wasn't sure if checking the flop to seem weak or beting out was the better idea. I see now betting out definitly was better. I'd planned to bet the turn but UTG did it for me and I was hoping, knowing him, if I only called he'd lead the river no matter what hit. Unfortunately it didn't work that way.

It's kind of crazy how these hands play out really. Here's one from later in the day at $25 PLO8 that worked out better.

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
8 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $24.50
UTG+1: $49.27
MP1: $26.15
MP2: $7.50
CO: $22.48
Hero: $39.76
SB: $49.78
BB: $33.21

Pre-flop: (8 players) Hero is Button with [4d] [3h] [Th] [Ah]
4 folds, CO calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25, SB calls $0.15, BB checks.

Flop: [Jh] [9d] [Kh] ($1, 4 players)
SB bets $0.25, BB folds, CO calls $0.25, Hero calls $0.25.

Turn: [7s] ($1.75, 3 players)
SB bets $1.7, CO calls $1.7, Hero calls $1.7.

River: [Qc] ($6.85, 3 players)
SB bets $6.55, CO folds, Hero raises to $26.2, SB calls $19.65.

Results:
Final pot: $59.25
Hero shows 4d 3h Th Ah
SB doesn't show 9c 2s Jc 3c
