Should I have led? How do I respond to his raise?

I like leading here (don't mind a check-call, though, either, or even check-raise), but I'd never lay down a draw like that. You have outs all over the place--any 8, T, J, or K (13 outs).

If the board pairs on the turn, you presumably have to fold. Otherwise, I'm seeing the river--particularly if the turn is a club. Otherwise, you may have problems with backdoor flushes.

with so many people behind me, i often check raise this and if pushed, i end up all in. the way you played, you can go with call or raise but not fold.

Well there's a first time for everything. Me folding a powerful draw is not a common occurrence. I'll look at the bright side and say that I'm at least exercising some caution, albeit misguided in this case. In all honesty I failed to calculate the 8s (4 obvious outs) because I was trying to put him on a hand. I was also in a big hand on another table where I had top set. Not a valid excuse, but part of the reason I was distracted. Hopefully as I gain experience I'll stop making these mistakes.
