Automatic Push? (Live Game)

112 MTT. 4 tables left, about 30. Top 9 get paid.

Blinds are 400/800

I'm BB w/ [Ah][2s]

Folded to Button, young guy, early 20's who limps. We are the only 2 that have been at that table the entire game. He doesn't play a lot of hands, but will play most hands the same way. Limps, rarely raises no matter the situation, but will call a raise most times when he limps. He limped and called an All-In earlier with KT offsuit and busted a better hand, but I haven't seen anything else bad from him.

He of course, limps. Strange move as 1st in, but his normal move.

SB is an older man, late 60's. Very tight. Short stacked almost the entire time he's been at the table. I have him covered. He limps.

Since I know Button is probably calling a push I check.

Flop is [6h][7h][9h]

SB checks. I have exactly 5000 left.

We just had 3 people move to our table. The 1st 3 hands they saw, I moved all-in. First hand I had garbage on the button and took the blinds. 2nd hand I had [Ad][Kd] and again took the blinds, but didn't show. 3rd hand I had [Ad][As] which I showed after taking the blinds and the old man's limp. They probably think I'm a bully, but the kid on the button has played with me the entire game and probably remembers me seeming ultra tight early in the game (due to lack of hands). I'm not sure what my table image is with him since I've been aggressive lately. He also seemed to not be paying attention at time (having to be told it was his turn to act or post or deal a few times) so I'm not even sure if I have any table image with him at all.

Given all this information, what's your move?

Forgot to mention that Button and I are almost exactly equal in chips.

Your M sucks. The blinds are coming for your soul. Folding to the money is not an option. The pot is already half your remaining stack. You know, from a realist point of view, that you have a 35% chance of winning this pot no matter what. So yes, you push. Let them make the tough call with middle pair.

But if I put any more money into the pot, am I not pot committed with the blinds so high anyway? I don't think I can fold if I commit another penny and I don't think I can get him to fold if the turn comes off a blank. I may not have a flush, but could the Button think I may have a straight or two pair and don't want him to draw either?

Anyway the outcome is that he quickly calls and turns over [8h][8c]. 3 of my outs are gone with his heart and now his straight flush draw. I still have 9 outs though. Can't believe he limped on the button with pocket 8's, but that has pretty much been his play the whole game. It would be a great story to say I went out with the A-high flush vs. the straight flush, but the turn was a black 4 and river a black 2. I had him covered by 400 (just enough for my small blind). I go out on the next hand with A8.

sure if he had a black A4 he has a better hand than you but one that will split pot at best with you every time except the times you win.

The part of live play is that you can look at your opponent and get an idea of if he will fold or not. This is very tricky for online but for live, i would have had to play with the guy and watch him make that bet to know if a push will work. From how you described it, once he gets chips in the pot, he's not folding. If he bets 1000, i probably call and hope he gets scared and checks behind on the turn.

Check and reevaluate on the turn. If he is a weak cs, then you can probably get a free look at the turn. If he is not going to fold KT, he is not going to fold if he has any piece of the flop/any overpair.

If your fold equity is 0 then you are either 30% to win unless he is on another k10.

I would rather be pushing any ace/pair in the next round or two than get in as a dog here. Draws are death in a tourney when you dont have your opponent outchipped.
