Pretty meh night last night, dropped $80 or so over 260 uneventful hands. Was not catching any cards (vpip was around 10 on both tables for the first hour plus). Started playing some iffy crap and fell into the FPS trap and got quartered pretty bad. I thought I had fold equity in a hand against a calling station. Duh. Then got quartered again when a guy hit his 2nd pair on the river.
Grabbed a nice pot from TGoldman before that, but it was all for naught.
Min raise to me in MP (I think), I have A4Jx (x might have been a 2, don't remember). TG and 1 or 2 other callers see flop of A4J, all clubs. Gets checked around, 4 hits the turn. Check to me, I pot it, TG calls (I don't like to see that), other guy calls, guy folds. Non low card hits the river, checks to me. I know TG can trap, and is the most likely player to have flat called with AA there (other than me) at the table. The fact that it was raised in ep, and the fact that I have one of the jacks makes it much less likely that he has AA, or that there is a JJ out there. I'd think that either one would have pushed back on the turn to charge the low chasers, so I am 99.44% sure I am good here. I bet half pot. TG waits for a bit and finally folds (whew). Other guy calls and I drag it. Turns out TG had the same underboat, so having that J really helped me out there.
Kinda sucks to make a pretty good read/play like that, but then donk off a bunch afterward on stupid shit. I really gotta work on living with the fact that I have no cards, rather than trying to manufacture hands with nothing.
I will remind myself, "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit."
