I have no idea on earth why that guy didn't push allin preflop with those tens. On a scale from 1-10 I would say that push is a 20. Agree briachek?

definiitly, that guy seems to be a real passive calling station. How did he make it this far?

Argh. Second biggest pair of the day and I run into a higher pocket pair.

Oh well. Should have made the laydown. JJ looked so damn good after 2.5hrs of looking at 92o. Thanks for sweating me guys.

That's a tough beat man, but I would have been on the edge of folding JJ. You made a real raise from UTG and he went all in therefore you had to think that 95% of the time its at best a coinflip. I can't really blame you though.

Briachek,

When I went into the tank I ran some quick math through my head. My thinking was that since I didn't know him, he had to have a good hand. TT-AA and AK. I threw out JJ so if you do the math a call getting almost 2-1 seems marginally correct. Keep in mind that if he has AKo I'm over 55% and even if he has an overpair I have 19% or so. The main thing that swayed me to call, though, was that I was 99% confident I was making the final table if I called and won, whereas if I folded I would be under the average, with blinds about to hit me, and would finish second to last table at best. My thinking is that I can turn the extra 18k into a hell of a lot more by bullying the table, since there were only 1 or 2 other big stacks.

I still don't know if it was the right call but hopefully you can see my reasoning.

i definately see the reasoning but I don't think you were out of it if you folded. You would still have 10K with the blinds hitting you which would cost you about another 2k if you didn't get a hand. If you find a hand to double up in the next round or two, you are right back in it and can make the final table. I'm not saying I would have made the laydown but while the hand was happening and I didn't know the cards, I had him on a big pocket pair and hoped you had AA, KK or would fold.

I worked out the math again just now and if we assume he would have made the play with TT, QQ, KK, AA, or AK then I am 43.5% to win the hand. In that case my call is correct. Now, I would have to think that he's less likely to make that move with TT so that knocks my percentage down a bit. Still, mathematically it should be a correct call. However, I do agree with you that I should have picked a better spot since (at the risk of sounding conceited) I considered myself to be one of the better players left in the tourney.

I'm glad though because I didn't feel to rusty. I think I'll play a $100 buyin event once or twice a week - and try to win a seat into the weekly $215.

Mg. You played very aggressive on the bubble but you only had two hands to showdown - K5 and A6. Did you raise with trash all the time? Didn't catch anything better except AJ?
