How bad was this call?

Postby striker2550 » Fri Nov 12, 2004 1:37 am

1/2 limit kill table semi-loose w/ some over betting
my flop seen % around 18%
Haven't seen a flop for about 2 orbits. I am getting bored and its late.
I am 1 off the button. 5 callers in front of me. I have [Tc][3c]
I called. Just how bad was this call?
Made flush on the turn. Of course I got beat by [Kc][4c]
My thinking was that I had odds to call. But w/ that crud?

I am no expert on limit but you answered our own question...

You entered the hand with a hand you knew was trash and you lost. Aare you really supprised? Ask yourself and be honest - Were you playing your best game entering a pot with T3s ??

After reviewing a lot of my play as of late - I have noticed that some of my worst losses comes from hands I KNEW had no business seeing the flop. But I get bored and want ACTION...so I enter with marginal holdings and get action - but not the right kind... :D

As poker players the hardest thing to do is maintain discipline - the second we lose it - we end up in deep crap.

Here are my poker tracker numbers for 10,8s thru 10,2s.

VP$IP 11.4% That sounded horrible to me.
But 78.9% of those were from a blind.

Here is what has surprised me. I am +0.38bb/hand when VP$IP !

So, if I can pick my spots to play these wisely, and it has a positive EV. I don't think its that bad of a play considering the advertising value. He played WHAT?!

Please dissagree, because I dont want to be tempted to play 10,low suited!

The ad value is tremendous - but you have to get away from the hand if you dont hit it huge...Yesterday playing .25/.50 NL I made a riase from the BB with T9o - Horrid hand in that position but I was trying out some new play. Well the flop comes KQJ - nice - Ended up taking the other players stack who had 2 pair - Now that move got me so much action on the table if was not funny - I was getting lucky and getting good flops which helps.

There are no right answers in Poker I think just general guidelines - You might like a book called Killer Poker by John Vorhous. It mentions some of those type of plays. Its a good read and has help improve my game.
