I was bored with Holdem so i decided to take a stab at setting my money on fire and stabbing myself in the eye with a pencil LAGGing it up a bit at a SH PLO table. I got incredibly lucky, a little unlucky, then incredibly lucky again. It was fun.

Time played: 30mins
Tables played: 1 - 2
Hands Played: 43
Poker Winnings: 28.45
Bonus cleared: 0.75
Total made: 29.20

Countdown to NL200: $1,244.38

I think I need to take a bit of a break from playing NL holdem ring games, even if it's just a day or two. It's my 18th birthday on the 26th and I have an exam coming up on the 29th so this week i'll be lucky to get 20 hours in, i'm not particularly bothered about it either, a break will be nice. I'm trying to get together enough money to move out of home, I initially had decided to get 6months rent + other expenses saved up in addition to my bankroll before I moved out, but that'll be something in the area of $12,000 which will take me a few months, longer than I care to stay at home for, so perhaps i'll only save up 2-3 months worth of rent and risk it.. i'd hate to have to move back home if everything goes to complete crap but my relationship with my parents is good enough that i can always move back home if i hit dire straights. I've worked my monthly nut to being about $2,000 AUD (about 1500 US), that will allow me to live pretty comfortably and also leave a bit of money left over for savings or whatever I want. Considering i've made close to double that this past month, i should hopefully be able to put $1000/mth back into my BR and keep that growing. This is all assuming i'm playing at NL50, my winrate will increase as I move up the limits and considering the amount of hours I put in each week i don't think i'll be at too much of a disadvantage. Just some things i've been mulling over in my head the past few weeks.

Thoughts? I know there are a few people out there who've moved out and are using poker to support themselves, so if any of you are reading this if you wouldn't mind dropping your 2 cents then i'd appreciate it :)

2-3 months sounds a bit risky, it's fairly easy to have a Month From Hell of bad beat, demoralised play and a couple of 2 day 'breaks' to get back in the zone.

Is poker going to be your job or something to support yourself at university? If it's a full time pro I'm recommend getting a partime job, not necessarily a full 20 hours a week. Side effects of pro poker are completely ridiculous sleeping patterns combined with staring at 2 computer screens for a lot of each day.

Having a part time job will reduce the stress of horrific months whereby you know you only need X amount less than usual. I always intended to get a part time job when I lapsed into poker being my job. Of course I never did and I do kinda miss meeting and talking to new people everyday. Then again I live in the middle of the countryside with friends.

I know I always seem to sound miserable as sin when talking about poker as a job but it's pretty cool. The only thing is I know I don't want to do it forever. The longer I do it the harder it'll be to get a job.

How many hour/tables are looking to put in each week?

This has been my life for years. Yes, it's sad, but i'm used to it and much prefer a job sitting infront of a computer from 9pm to 4am than taking inventory in a store or serving customers, or something like that.

Poker's going to be something to support myself while at university, i'm doing a full-time course but only go 2 days a week and i don't study or put in any extra work at all until the night before an exam/assignmet is due. I'll be meeting friends at uni those couple of days and will make sure to get out of the house and socialise during the weekend.. part of the reason i want to move out is that i'll be able to go out with friends and meet new people more easily if i do..

I've thought about a part-time job but at the moment i think it's something i'll defer from, although once i've moved out if I find poker too stressfull or that i'm not making enough then i'll get another job.

I don't plan on playing poker forever either (well not yet at this point in time anyway), but it's certainly providing better income at the moment than any other job I could possibly get..

I'm looking to put in 30 - 40 hours a week, playing 6 - 8 tables at a time (i might increase this if I can sustain a decent winrate over 100k or so hands). I've been putting in about 12,000 hands a week lately so I don't think any month will be able to be THAT terrible, 50k hands is quite a lot and any variance shouldn't last that long..

Interesting comments though, thanks for the input :) How long have you had poker as a job for?

About 19 months.

You seem to have the things I warned about covered (12k hands a week  ). I kinda recommend an emergency fund to cover for PC exploding or car problems seperate from the 3 months rent. Then again I have an extra emegency fund the same way I (don't) have a part time job.

Anyways best of luck!

Nice to know you practice what you preach :P I like the idea though and might put a little bit of money away for that reason. How many hands a week do you put in?

now THAT was spewing chips! I entered a 10 + 1 MTT and decided to LAG it up. I got busted when someone limped in MP after 2-3 limpers with AA and my 74 on a 2367 board just didn't hold up! Ah well.

Probably about 5000-6000 a week for an average week, but I've just got a 21 inch monitor to go with the 17. The 21 inch will go to a hi-resolution so I can now get more ful size tables on. May go from 3 to 5 tables at a time. Not sure yet.

It was a big bad beat, i'm actually thinking of going back to tribeca for a bit now, i'm thinking of doing the bowmans bonus. I'm still running pretty good at 5 - 6 ptbb/100 at NL50 over the last 7,000 or so hands, but i need a change of pace and playing some 6max at tribeca should help with that. I know I pracically swore off them the last time i was there but eh.

Yes, 18th birthday :P I can't wait to be able to go to the casino for some live play, though it's unfortunate that the only casino here has no NL games, only 5/10 limit, but the players are so bad that it should still be profitable..

Well BTP has been dead for the past 3 or so hours, and i've had a hell of a scare when I decided (against ALL previous bitter judgement) to deposit for another b2b bonus, a 5x one this time. I deposited $1,000 and got an error message from the site saying something went wrong, but I still lost the money from my neteller account? So I silently freaked out for a while and eventually they replied to my email saying my deposit was being "processed", i've never had that before as all deposits via neteller are usually instant, so i hope i get the money soon and all goes well.

I didn't play any extra poker tonight, I tried signing up to another Tribeca site but got assed around by CS there too so I gave that up. I spent most of the night (or morning, actually) watching tv/movies and chatting to Steph, not a bad night all in all. 18 hours to go till i'm 18..fck yeah :D

Btw.. If I lose money at b2b this time around, someone, anyone, EVERYONE, please, don't EVER let me deposit money there again. The bonuses are just too god damn juicy but there's some barrier stopping me from winning money through actual poker there. I made a bucketload through Martins but lost some at heypoker and wasa I think it was I tried.. I really hope it goes better this time. I might even try a shortstack strategy, although that might be a bit hard considering they don't have (m)any FR tables.. I also might try limit again, but lets see, i have a month to clear it.

I have been playing 100NL 6 max over at stars. Apparently no dice on the party rakeback :?
Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.
