Starting hand question

Postby legendary loser » Sun Nov 28, 2004 11:17 pm

I am curious to see how players play KQ, KJ, A10, AJ (all unsuited) from EP,MP and LP. I do not play any of these hands for a raise, and usually limp with all of them except A10, which I usually muck. Occasionally I will raise w/ AJ if I'm in LP and its been folded to me or theres only one limper.

I muck all of those hands in EP except AJ on occasion. In LP I play all of them if there is no raise and not more than 2 limpers. If it's folded to me I will often raise with them. Also depends on table texture.

I play *everything* for a raise. Tight/*aggressive* is the style you want. If you are in MP/LP there is a higher chance that you are going to have last action by folding out others in the field with a raise. If you are raising from the CO or the Button the blinds are likely to fold preflop or on the flop. Obviously you need to play cautiously when called and definitely consider folding if you are reraised with some of those hands because you can get stuck in dominated positions. I don't play any of those hands from EP, I don't really play any of them from mid position either. I generally play these hands for a raise from as far away as 3 off the button (not that far out very often) and if there is only one limper I will raise in the CO or on the button with these hands. I drop these hands very quickly if I'm getting played back at.

The only ones of those hands that I'll play anywhere really for any sort of bet are AJ and KQ, both of which I may raise in the last two seats IF i'm opening. I'll muck KJo everywhere except perhaps the CO and button (and blinds) if I can limp in against passive opponents. Same goes for AT. I play AJs and sometimes ATs from EP and MP for a limp; will very occasionally raise AJs in MP. I think you lose no value at all by mucking those hands from pretty much everywhere, though I don't like to appear to be a TOTAL rock to my opponents so I'll often take a limp in LP if the table is favourable.
