I've been lacking confidence online ever since my shot @ $2000 H/U against someone whom i considered an uber donk, and getting him all in as an 80% favorite on the turn only to get sucked out on the river. Anyways, I've had an up and down day until this hand, which will retire me for the evening...

KK in the BB. Everyone at the table is loose and seemingly maniacal (besides me)

UTG min raises and everyone calls to me, I raise to $28 and 3 others call. Flop is QJ6 rainbow and I lead for $55. First guy calls, second guy folds and third guy pushes for 53$ more, which I couldn't raise, so I called, as did the guy behind me (first guy). The Turn is an offsuit 7 and I put the only other remaining player all in for $200, trying to get heads up with the other already all-in player. He deliberated and eventually called.

So now 2 players are all in against me and we're going to the river, which is a King, making the board : KQJ67

Cool, now I have a set of kings. Maybe I just rivered them?

Showdown, the flop pusher had KT for a busted straight draw, and the guy who called HIS WHOLE STACK ON THE TURN had AT for a rivered straight, and takes down the $700 pot.

withdrew the roll and going to party.. I'm sure I'll get sucked out on less often there...

BTW, in vegas this week put someone all in on the turn when I had a set, and he called with a gutshot and hit it. Woe is me? I think yes

I'd like to add that this is where "luck" really comes into play. "Luck" being whether you get sucked out on in big situations or small ones. And really, how often is someone going to CALL ALL-IN with a gutshot straight draw for this much of his stack? I know I'll win 95% of the time in this situation, but I doubt I'll find this situation 19 more times even in the next 1 or 2 years to compensate or to "get my equity." Thats why it pisses me off. Let me remind you I once got my AA v KK v KK all in in a cash game for full stacks, and lost to their rivered straight. I know I'll win in that situation 98% of the time, but I can guarantee I'll never be inolved in that same situation probably EVER again (maybe once or twice more, but nowhere near enough times to compensate for losing)

here's what I think... or here's what lets me sleep at night

All the times when you win @ showdown and the villian mucks, and you think to yourself "wonder WTF he had", well it was probably a gutshot or some other random crapy draw that missed. Point is, when you loose those it really sticks with you, but when you win, well it's just another win.

Remember the last time you won with AA?

Well that wasn't supposed to happen 100% of the time, however over that sample size it did.


Everytime you get your opponent to put money in and they aren't drawing dead, and you win the pot, you have defied the odds. If you get it all in with KK vs. JJ and win, you have gotten lucky. You were only supposed to recieve 80% of the pot but you receieved 100%.

But that's not how you think. When you get it all in with the best hand and you win, you simply pat yourself on the back and say "That's what was supposed to happen, justice has been served." It hasn't, you were lucky, you got more of the pot than you deserved.
