Nice session last night, 500 hands 300BBs, mixed bw the 100NL and the 200NL.
So I got to thinking about a post I made at the top of this page..where I lost a 300bb stack with top set all in on the flop, on top of some other bad luck and bad play in a session around 4/20 or so. Dropped about 800 all told which is my worst session of all time - this was 4 full buy ins net, but felt worse because I had just about made a comeback from an AA v QQ all in PF loss (I had AA), as well as some other bs, and then I got sebbed with the top set hand losing 300bb to a gutterfucking SD to the table maniac with an 800 bb stack. To sit so patiently, and build a 300bb stack all thw while having this fool in my sights (much like MVP hungrily looks at pictures of fitness professional John Basedow), well to say I was dissappointed was an understatement. Luckily, I had the sense to donk off only 1 more full buy in before i called it a night.
Anyway, so I got to thinking about how I felt the next morning (I probably felt alot like Seb's motorcycle seat feels after Seb has 6 beers and 6 bowls of chili), and it obvioslu tried my patience. The impact to my roll was pretty much insignificant. After some very early BR MGT struggles in my 'career' (summer 2005), I have been very dilligent about playing within my roll (40 buy in rule), and I'm currently playing 100NL/200NL with a BR over 15K. But that loss nagged at me. I'm here to report that as of last night, I've made back the full loss x2. So 2G's in the last 15 or so days. I have really stopped posting results for the most part, just because I was mainly doing it to stay accountable to myself - and that goal was met, I am now accountable without reporting every days session results....but this one I wanted to sahre - and for a specific reason...
We've all had these nightmare sessions where caro's principle of pain kicks in and all you're concerned about is getting even, bad play be damned...this turns a -200bb session into a -600bb session...I want to reiterate that these bad sessions are all BUMPS IN THE ROAD for a longterm winner. If I look my graph for 30 or 60 days, its likely that that day will be nothing but a small bit of variance. Really served to give me some perspective on losing sessions in general and the long term view. Even Brunson has losing weeks - and while we aren't playing the same competition as Doyle, even the best players post mediocre resulkts from time to time and its OK.
As you can see, I have yet to have a drink after this recent bug and its turned me a bit batty....but think long term guy.
Fear does not exist in this Dojo, does it?
