Move to $3/$6?

Postby briachek » Sun Mar 06, 2005 6:28 pm

Ok, I've had the bankroll for 3/6 for a long time but since I only played it in the casino, I felt I still needed to work my way up in limit. Now, everyone that has cared to keep up with my progress has seen that I've been getting the fat end of the bat shoved up you know where every time I've played the last couple weeks. Now, while some people might enjoy this (cough*TW*cough), I was wondering if maybe I should play 3/6. I don't think i'm playing on tilt (maybe a little at the END of sessions as I'm playing my last round) but I haven't been playing like that during the session.

Show of hands, who thinks I should move up? Should I wait til I get a couple winning sessions in a row? Should I wait til I start and finish deposit bonuses on the party skins and cryptos?

Get the bonuses outta the way first (no reasoning, really), and if you have the bankroll, ease into 3/6.

If you two or three table, just have one table of 3/6. If you four table, maybe two 3/6.

Of course, this is coming from someone who's still at the .50/1 level.

(Not to thread hijack, but what would the proper bankroll for 1/2 be?)
If you're gonna play trash, expect it to get taken out.

(I hate those people who quote themselves, but that's one of my original lines).

assuming your br is not replaceable, you should have 300 bb or 600 for 1/2 limit.

Thanks for your thoughts but for some reason I don't like mixing my games like that but maybe that's a stupid reason not to.

Hey Brian.

If your bankroll is $2,500 or more, I would move up. With less I would play two 2/4 tables with one 3/6 table.

Try to make it more of a question of game selection than limit selection. Play 2/4, and look around for a juicy 3/6 game -- whatever type of table you play best at. Then when you're comfortable with that, look for two games. Work into it gradually.

I have a bankroll of about 5k.

Now how do you find the juicy games? I seem to do worse in the looser, higher ave pot games and do better on the tight, passive tables. Often, I was doing better on 2/4 tables that have ave pots of 20-22 dollars. What does everyone look for in a game?

I love the loose passive games personally. They can be murder on your big hands, but you'll really get paid off limping with suited aces and kings, suited connectors, & small pocket pairs.

I don't necessarily look at the table averages. I don't like to do that. With GT+ fired up on party, I'll open four tables and let PT liveupdate the stats for 20 minutes and then check out those stats.

The table stats can be deceiving, so I look at each player's stats on the table. If six or more have VP$IP under 20, I don't sit down there. I look at those with VP$IP over 25 and look at their preflop and postflop aggression. I don't like aggressive maniacs, so if there are more than one, I don't sit there either.

If you're using PT and GT+, I would just ignore table averages and look at each player's average, and whatever type of game you like best, sit there based on players' averages, not the table's.
