I initially deposited $200 and played the $80 and the $25 rebuys and didn't cash in either. I then put in another $200 and played both events and cashed in both, bringing me up to $1300 in W$ and about $100 and real money left over.
After that I've been playing the $80 and the $25R tournaments (if you play in a W$ eligible tournament they always use W$ if you have any available. you do not get to choose if you want to buy in with cash or W$). So I've been floating in W$ for the tourneys, but I haven't had to infuse any more cash into Pokerstars.
I've probably been averaging a cash in about in in ever 4 or 5 of those tournaments I play, which is profitable. The nice thing is after the first time you cash you can play a lot more tourneys without running out of W$.
Honestly I think I've been more profitable at these tournaments than other forms of poker I've played lately. I"ve been thinking about trying to build up more and selling some of the W$....
I don't have stats on exactly how many tournaments I've played, but I would guess I have cashed in 7 of them and played about 30. over the last 3 weeks. That works out to (7 * $650) - (30 * $80) = $2150 which is pretty close to where I'm at now.
These tournaments have their share of idiots, but they usually have about 50 players and I would guess 25 of them are decent players who are playing them over and over just like I am. This makes the end game tough since it's a flat payout structure and everyone knows that 7th place is just as good as 1st, making tight play more correct. You can steal the blinds easier, but most of the bustouts near the endgame are either two big hands or a blind stealer against a legitimate late position or blind hand.
