The same as with MK, Rhound asked me to write some reviews of the poker rooms in AC. However, since 95% of my time is spent in the Taj which I consider far better than the rest, most of the information is there. Besides the new Borgata, I haven't been to any other casino more than once so I don't have anything to say about them.

Taj Majal – The poker room is huge, which I estimate to have about 80 tables, and plays most of the games you would find in other poker rooms. Limit holdem games range from $2/$4 to $100/$200 from what I’ve seen in the “High Limit” area. They offer $1/$2 NLHE with a $60 minimum buy in and $300 max which is a great deep game to play as the players are pretty bad and normal preflop raises range from $5 to $22. People will often bet big on the flop so its costly to draw but often don’t increase their bets sizes for the turn giving you good odds and will still pay you off at the end. $2/$5 NLHE, with $100 min and $500 max, is normally offered. Other games offered include Limit Omaha8 with a Half Kill, Stud, and 2-way games that are normally Stud H/L and Omaha8. There are 2 daily tourneys and SNGs available however the structures do not favor the good player. SNG’s often turn into crapshoots and only top spots pay, but a deal is often made. The entry fees are high as a $50 SNG cost $65 with $500 going to the winner of the 10 person table. MTT’s are a little better with the structure but their 15 min rounds (5k in starting chips starting at 25/50 blinds) don’t seem like much at first but blinds quickly double and antes start at about the 4th level. If I recall, buy ins for these daily MTT’s range from $100-$500 depending on the day of the week.

Wait time are usually not long since they have so many tables and dealers. Show up around noon when the early MTT is starting to shrink and tables just open and you will wait 15 minutes at most for your game of choice. You do earn comps for playing so make sure to asked to be signed in when you show and swipe out when you leave. Comps can be used for the poker snack bar, which offers service to the table if you don’t want to go to it yourself, or the buffet. The snack bar is actually VERY good and reasonably priced and if you play for about 10 hours, you earn $10 in comp which is plenty to pay for your meal.

Borgata – This room has recently been upgraded and they did a damn good job. They have probably about 60-70 tables in a well spaced comfortable room. Unlike other places that try to cram in one or two more tables in an area and sacrifice walking space, Borgata decided to leave walking space at a premium so you can walk around any table fully. They do have a separated high limits area that often have a named pro or two playing there and easily accessible to the public if you wish to rail. However, games seem pretty limited to NL and Limit holdem, which might not be a problem for most people. Waiting time is normally short due to the amount of table. However, if you wish to play a game like omaha h/l, I couldn't get a game even when the WPT was in the casino.

As for play, kenny can probably add more to it than me since he's played there more. It seems to be what you typically expect from live play. However, I seem to do better at the Taj and enjoy playing there, which i'm sure is not mutually exclusive, but I just feel more comfortable with the game feel at the Taj. Buy in for 1/2 is 300 max (60 min I believe, just like the Taj) and 500 max for 2/5 I believe. Other games higher might be no cap but I have no experience there.

You earn comps as you play as long as you log in. You can use the comps everywhere including for food in the new foodcourt located literally right below the poker room and has a wide variety of places from greasy burgers to vegetarian (located next to each other ironically), japanese, chinese, italian, cheese steaks, and an Ice cream place. If you wish to go other places, the Borgata is isolated from all the other casinos since its far from the boardwalk where most the others are located so its a 10 min drive if you wish to see other places.

Overall, very nice place with friendly staff and a good choice. Worth checking out definitely

All I can add to this, and it isn't much, is that I have played 3 tournaments at the new Caesar's room and while small I enjoyed it very much.

I've played at Billy's Poker Room at Bally's and was not very happy with the experience. It seemed that the dealers had no control over the games. There were many disputes as to the rules and the people in charge had a hard time resolving them because I don't think they really knew the rules. They were constantly telling people they had to leave if they weren't playing at that moment (so you couldn't watch your friends).

I've played once at the Trop (limit game) and I felt like I was in Teddy KGB's place. Not very well lit, dealers were semi-competent, always in a rush to get to the next hand.

I've tried to get into the Borgata room 3x, but the wait list was soo long that by the time I could get a seat, at least 5 hours had gone by (and this is well after midnight) and I was already too drunk and tired to play. This may change with the opening of the new larger room upstairs.

I've been to the Harrah's Poker Room on a Friday evening (during a WSOP circuit final table) and couldn't believe how dead it was. We were going to play the Friday night MTT, but 20 minutes before start they only had 9 people signed up.

As the summer tourism season gets ready to hit a full swing, so does the poker action down at Atlantic City. With no less than seven Atlantic City casinos featuring poker rooms, there are plenty of options for potential players headed down the New Jersey shore for some entertainment.

Harrahs Hotel & Casino will offer two poker tournaments with the winner receiving a $10,000 seat at the World Series of Poker at the Rio Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. The two tournaments will be held on May 28th and June 25th. The buy-in for each event is $1100. The winners will be responsible for their own hotel and airfare to Las Vegas. All players must be a Harrahs Total Rewards Card member. For players looking for more affordable action, the Harrahs poker room features a Monday through Thursday poker tournament starting at 7:00 p.m. with a $150 buy in.

“The action picks up going into the summer,” said Harrahs Poker Manager John Arthur. “It happens when the legal, younger guys get out of college. No doubt poker is a hot commodity right now. Between television and a lot of other factors the younger guys are learning the game. As soon as they turn 21 they’re ready to give it a try.”

Over at the Borgata Hotel & Casino, the casino will be hosting the Ultimate Weekend Poker Tournament on the weekend of May 5th-7th. The weekend will include eight different poker tournaments with the Ultimate Super Satellite highlighting the weekend’s attractions. Buy-in’s range from $110 to $1000 for the Ultimate Super Satellite. Prizes include cash and buy-ins at both World Series of Poker and WPT events.

Poker at the Borgata has become big business. The casino is planning to open a new 85 table poker room in June.

“It’s a great development,” explained Mike Facenda the Borgata spokesperson. “We want to provide our clients with a great product in the game they want to play. The action at the Borgata poker room has grown dramatically since the casino first opened in July 2003.

With high amount of poker players making their way to the Borgata Hotel & Casino during the poker room’s short history, there is no sign that business will slow down any time soon.

“Since we opened the Borgata, people have wanted to play (poker) more and more,” Facenda added. It’s becoming a lifestyle experience, more for leisure. It’s developed over time and has become quite popular.”

The Trump Taj Mahal has daily hold’em poker tournaments starting at 12:15 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. with the buy-in starting at $100 for weekdays. Friday night and Saturday night buy-ins are $225 and $340 respectively.

The Sands Hotel & Casino offers daily poker tournaments Monday-Thursday at 2:00 p.m. and Friday at 8:00 p.m. with a $30 buy in with. The Saturday night poker tournament starts at 8:00 p.m. with a $175 buy-in.

The Showboat Hotel & Casino features the new House of Blues Poker Room with 25 tables and daily tournaments at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Entry fees are $40 with a $10 buy in.

I would also have to agree with rhound....i made just over $600 at the taj in about 6 hours playing 1/2 NL. I also played at the Borgata for about 2 hours and was up about $30. I did enjoy the play and playing at the Taj Mahal and will go back there in a second

While it maybe small I really like Harrah's room in AC. The decore is really nice and the players are weak and loose. Small cash games but good place to make some dough.
