A couple preflop decisions

Postby briachek » Fri May 19, 2006 11:26 am

Converter sucks.

Hand 1

I had no problem getting in against the two shorties but with this AA hand, i didn't want to reraise and get stuck for my whole stack oop against the big stack who from what i can tell, played pretty decently since i've been there. Do you still reraise to isolate and hope the big stack folds or do you call and see a flop?

Hand 2

RAH is a normal short stack opponent and does this with most good pair hands, likely AA, and good high wrappy hands but seems to take a flop with all other holdings. he isn't that good but always plays a short stack so that money is likely going in on any flop. Don't know the min raiser. Do I fold knowing i could be sandwiched here with the min raiser, reraise to isolate or call and take the chance that i get sandwiched in and if I do, i assume then getting all in 3 way is a given if it comes to that.

There's one other shortie in the hand and one normal stack. If a reraise would get the other full stack out then go ahead. A fancy play which may not work here is to reraise, but not full pot, so that you give pokerPUNANY a chance to make an allin rereraise, after which you can push. Often when shortstacks see that there will be a big multiway pot they make the push...

Ojingo, i added another hand to the post that you missed while you were answering.

Also, for hand 1, i don't know if I can get the full stack out. He doesn't have high aggression but is semi loose so it could be a wide variety of hands but also a big hand and he doesn't raise like me. If its unknown if I can get him out, do you do it anyway? Its also possible the other shorties calls all in which gives him nice odds to chase his hand where he will have position on me.

In hand 2 I don't mind getting all in if I'm pretty confident that both of them have AA, in which case you're a money favourite in most scenarios. (The exception being when both of your flush draws are in their hands and they have your T's.) If they don't block your draws then you're easily 40% in a 3-way pot, and you're guaranteed to put them on tilt if you win.

I think it depends somewhat on the table, but with your read on deep stack, I think I'd just call in hand 1.

Hand 2: I think the mini-raiser is going to call rather than re-raise more often than not. So, I'd definitely call that one. If mini-raiser re-raises, I can go either way. Objectively, you probably have pot odds to call if you have 2 presumed AA hands, which I rather doubt. I think these mini-raises more often mean drawy-type hands.
