I have noticed this phenomenon also playing 100NL at party. A have stats on a couple guy's who will buy in short everytime, but whose Vp$Ip are like 10. Suprisingly enough they are winning players. They will basically get it all in preflop or on the flop with any overpair, TPTK etc. It's really hard to break them because you just don't have the odds to call their raises. Yea 5$ to see a flop to get your 20$ stack ... LOL.... In the general case I usually assume the guys are donks, but beware that there are some nut peddling, set mining hoes who love the shorstacks. Just my thoughts.
