Reraising Preflop with Suited Connectors ($200NL 6max)

Postby T-Rod » Wed May 31, 2006 2:18 pm

Since I've moved to $200NL I've noticed that there is a LOT more preflop raising. Not so much reraising though. I've gotten into a habit of reraising a preflop raise of x4BB from an overly raisey player to x16BB with JJ or better. If they have AA/KK they push or reraise, and if they don't, they usually check/fold to my 3/4 pot sized bet on the flop.

So I've been toying with the idea of reraising with SCs in this spot. I would only do it when:
1) Villain's pfr is way too high so he's raising crap like KT.
2) I have position.
3) Villain has not shown any calling station tendencies.

If I don't win the pot, I gain the advantage of possibly getting some cheap cards with my SC, or hitting my very disguised two pair/trips.

But if I start reraising with SCs, Villains will start doubting my reraises as genuine.

Thoughts.....

I think it's a great play. You say that villain's will doubt your reraise is genuine like it's a bad thing.

Picture this: you hold AA, villain makes a 4x PFR. You raise to 16x. Villain doubts your reraise and reraises to 40x with his QQ. You're all in. Villain had 100bbs...he either concedes 40% of a stack or calls with stupid odds. Oops.

I wouldn't over-use it. And of course you've got to be ready to ditch it if it goes bad. And you have to use it from position, which will guarantee you that free turn card you want if he calls the PF Reraise.

More than anything else, I think you'll get into some guys' heads. They'll start to dread a reraise because they don't know what it means, so eventually some of them will tighten up, and only make their raise with premium hands, thus making them more predictable for you.

I love this play. When someone is raising 15% or more, they are raising junk and they almost always think they can dominate a table.

When I start reraising them, they almost always get intimidated and back off.

I normally like to see someone else reraise them first and see how they resond. if they fold anywhere near 1/2 the time they get reraised, then I'll reraise them liberally.

Any big hand and any SC is a reraise against them. Like you said though, I only do it in position because alot of the time, Im going to want a free turn card.

Now if they are one of these moronic chronic min raisers, I'll reraise them with literally anything and I will usually show.

I meant they back off with raising so much in general, which is what I want them to do. But if they are calling some of my reraises, then I need to be reraising my big hands.

If they raise alot, then they are raising junk like KT and A9. How much am I going to make from KT when I cold call with AA? I would rather have them put more money in preflop hoping to flop a miracle.
