As someone who is slightly resistant to change, and generally comforted by routine, I stuck it out at the FR games for probably longer than is necessary. I played about 140k hands of FR, from the 25nl to the 500nl (mostly to the 200nl though), and built my roll at FR. For the reasons I already stated, I was very reluctant to make the switch to SH. I was just SURE there was no reason to switch, I didnt want to deal with the variance etc....

I played at about 25/5/4 at FR, for a WR close to 10PTBB/100.

Then, after a 5k or so nearly breakeven stretch at FR, I decided that as a change of pace, I would try out the SH action on the Dise. I started at 100NL and crushed it for like 15ptbb/100 over a small sample, maybe 3k hands. I then moved up to the 200NLs, and over like 6k hands, I'm over 35ptbb/100. I am playing at like 33/11/3.5.

The key differences i've found, IMO at least are mostly in preflop decisions. I've onbiously opened up some (mainly in the last 2 seats of 5-max tables). Postflop, I am mostly sticking to the same guidelines I had at FR (position is key, dont go nuts with 1 pair hands, dont slow play, etc).

I have found that the quality of play at the SH tables is, to be nice about it and not fvcking jinx myself, well, lets say its not as good as the quality at FR - meaning that you find alot less solid grinders and more LAg Idiots. Also many more shortstacks that will call any raise Pf and then push post flop with ANY piece of the board.

These are my initial impressions, I know I am running white hot and it wont last - at least not to this extent, but can we use this thread as a forum for discussion re: key differences bw SH and FR play, players etc....

I am obviously very interested as its been quite lucrative for me so far...

I think you have touched on a few of the differences. 6-max games are donk magnets. The short stacks are more donkish and there are more of them. At the sites I play on there is better table selection too (Stars, FTP, Tribeca, B2B). Not only more tables, but more tables you actually want to be playing at. Just find a loose table with 2 or 3 30-60% stacks and get position on the big stack(s)s and you have yourself a game.

I think postflop you can play more hands more aggressively. For example, if you have QQ as an overpair you are less likely to run into KK/AA than at FR. Trouble hands go up in value (KJ, QT, KT, AT, etc). More people are willing to play any ace (and sometimes king), so AT, A9 will outkick your opponent more often, stuff like that

Another major difference is you can get better reads at 6-max as everyone is playingmore pots. Its very easy to spot the bad players.

Now that I play 6-max I wonder why I ever played FR. I sat down at a FR 400NL table on Stars recently and everyone at it was a TAG, full stacked, and seemed reasonably solid. Once I realized that I knew it was at best marginal to play there. I move over to 6 max, and there might be 2 TAGs at a table and rarely are any of the loose players truly good. Good LAGs are few and far between.

Oh, and you get to play more hands/hr so your hourly winrate goes up as long as you can keep winning the same BB/100. I am finding I am exceeding my FR winrate, so I make that much more money.
