PokerStars 1/2 Hold'em (9 handed)

Preflop: Hero is BB with [Jh], [9d].
5 folds, CO calls, Button calls, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop: (4 SB) [3s], [4d], [Js] (4 players)
SB bets, Hero raises, CO calls, Button folds, SB calls.

Turn: (5 BB) [Td] (3 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, CO calls, SB calls.

River: (8 BB) [Jd] (3 players)
SB bets, Hero calls, CO calls.

Final Pot: 11 BB

Results in white below:
SB has Kd 3d (flush, king high).
Hero has Jh 9d (three of a kind, jacks).
CO has Jc Ah (three of a kind, jacks).
Outcome: SB wins 11 BB.

Comments on my play here? After he bet out the river, I thought he had a Jack and I might have kicker problems. I see it often that people don't like their top pair after a raise but will just bet out again when another one hits, not believing anyone else could possibly have it. Anyone play this hand any different? I probably should have respected the flop call by the CO more but I didn't have too many hands on him and wasn't sure.

I don't think I would have been afraid of the CO here; his play looks like A5s or some other big draw to me. Flat calling a raise on the flop does certainly not look like AJ to me. I don't see any logic in SBs play. On the flop he might bet because he has a big draw ro because he has a part of the flop and wants to find out if it's good.

People indeed do strange things when their top pair changes into trips, mainly because they reason that the fact that there is now only one jack unaccounted for makes it unlikely that that card is in the hand of their opponents.

But if SB had a jack wouldn't he have decided on the turn whether he thought it was good or not? This is not really a board on which you check-call a turn bet with top pair if you're not sure whether it's good or not. If he had a stronger hand on the turn he would have bet or checkraised, so that means he is on a draw. You can expect to be ahead most of the time here when the straights and flushes miss. It is highly unlikely that that diamond really helped someone. So definitely call a river bet. I might even have raised, thinking that the SB was bluffing the scare card and the CO missed his draw.

it seems I was dead in the hand anyway but I had put the CO on a flush draw from his cold call on the flop and was surprised to see him call the river. I had very little chance here. These are the types of hands that I feel you should be the aggressor or just get out of the way. I'm the aggressor at some point during EVERY hand I'm in. I can't think of one time where I've only called, never bet or raised, in a hand won or lost. As TW has said in the past and I've lived by it too: If your hand isn't good enough to raise when you hit, you shouldn't be playing it.

Thoughts on this?
