What kind of PF call is that? I mean really? 79 suited or not from that position? I figured NL200 folks were better than that. This is the first time I have gotten stacked since moving to NL200 so it probably hurts more than it should but damn does it piss me off!

how do you get those awesome big cards seb?

I've had a similar situation in the past, but the pot was alot smaller so I folded the river all in bet. If not much is invested, calling for at best a split (assuming he has at least a K) is not +EV

Villain's play looks fine to me, I'd call there if I knew i was up against a donk who raises 3x bb. Such a weak raise usually means big cards which I can take on a low card flop or AA or KK which I will also stack on a two pair, trip, or even quads flop.

I'm getting the feeling that some folks think it's ok that the villain played 79 from that position. Now, that being the case, why is it that I also have the feeling that if I had been the villain in that position and made that call preflop, and then the quads didn't hit, that there would be comments along the lines of "WTF were you doing calling ANY kind of raise from EP with that hand?" closely followed by "Dumbass."

As for the 3bb raise, since when is this not standard fare?

I'd like to know if my lines of thought have major flaws that need fixing. Please don't be insulting with your comments, I AM trying to learn. My thoughts as the hand went along were as follows:

PF - AKs, cool, good starting hand for once. Raise about 3bb. I want action but not a bunch of garbage hand limpers. (I was under the impression that the folks at Stars were not Paradise NL25 donks who call raises with any 2 cards they get, in fact I had recently been told by a BTP'er or two that Stars players are better and tighter than some of the looser sites.)

Flop - WOW, don't see trips flop all that often. I seriously doubt anyone with 9x would have called a PFR from early position. I'll make a CB to show I am still proud of my hand and I'll be happy to take it down right here. Not pleased with the call, good chance he has a PP. PP would be good enough to call a normal raise PF trying to hit the set.

Turn - King! Bang. (as twelver would say) Hit the boat, only AA is beating me now, bet semi strongly but not full pot like the flop. I want to look like maybe I'm holding a medium PP but am too chicken to push in case he has a K. Basically hoping to induce him to raise me all in if he does have QQ or JJ. Damn, he only called. Why didn't he raise me? I still don't believe he has the case 9. He must have AA, but if he does, why didn't he reraise me PF? No, he doesn't have AA. Same thing goes for KK. Maybe even QQ but I can see him playing QQ just like this. It must be QQ or JJ, that or a small PP that gave him a boat he just can't let go of.

River - Ten. He pushes. I figured this would probably be the way he played the river regardless of what hand he has at this point. I still think 9's full of K's is the best hand, even if it does end up being a split, which I doubt, I'm calling.

If a MOD, thinks maybe this thread would now be better suited to the NL forum, feel free to move it. I hadn't originally intended it to be one for disection, but it seems to have become that.

Buddy look at it from his perspective. if he has stats on you he knows youre tight, he can put you on a short range. He has what I would consider a perfect hand to call you with, especially since A.) he's already limped and B.) your PF raise was so small that he onbly needs to call 4 more bbs, and he's getting 9:4 on that call. Its a no brainer for me if I'm him. Got to make the PF raise bigger. Dont really have too much of an issue with your actions on the flop and turn (which was bad luck for you). the all in on the river would make me pause tho, and depending on his stack size and the kind of night I'm having, I might call, but in no way would I feel good about it - in fact, I think he played his hand almost exactly how I would have played it. Hope you take this as constructive criticism rather than ragging.
