I think betting 1/2 the pot would have been better. I figured he would call all the way so I went a bit larger. Im not happy he folded.

Your bet is fine, don't be too results oriented. If you only bet 1/2 pot that would limit the size of a reasonable river bet too. He prolly just had like 78 and decided to rip with his gutshot for a flop bet but is planning on bailing if he doesnt hit on the turn. I'm sure he didnt fold an ace or two pair or something crazy.

For the n:th time, raise more preflop. 5bb is an absolute minimum (4+1) but I wouldn't mind 6-8bb. Hell, I'd prefer a flat out push to that 3bb raise.
