Thought .:

You get crazy value on your hands when you do flop big.

Example:

You show 5 hands all bluffs in small pots in a row .. Next hand you get AA and you reraise someone preflop allin (big pot). He calls with JJ because you're the only one he couldn't lay it down too. While that sounds logic it has the flaw that he applies it on both big pots and small pots. That is where you edge is for a large part.

So you better have the goods.

Well I guess I fold the river only because I totally misplayed the hand. Here's what I would NOT do:

1) Call a x4BB bet with a SC OOP.
2) Forget rule 1, call anyway, and then just check a flop where I have the FD.
3) Check a turn where my hand just improved and everyone checked the flop.

I have never seen Xaston play, so I really don't have a clue. But from looking at his posts, he's a frickin' betting machine. When he's not betting, I get suspicious.

I mean, Xaston never checks the flop and the turn. He takes pots down with weakish hands when nobody else wants them. Or so I imagine. So Xaston definitely fires the flop or the turn with 66.

If Xaston had something crazy like 74, he also would bet the flop and/or the turn to try to take it down.

I conclude that Xaston has QQ or JJ and decided to slowplay it because it was 5 handed. He took the calculated risk that a flush might beat him, in order to try to stack somebody catching a second-best hand by the river. He also figured that a flush draw would bet the turn.

I would never ever ever ever check the flop with JJ or QQ. When a LAG raises pre flop and checks the flop you get suspicious. Those LAGs probably suck. If I flop big I bet it for sure. Re-raised pots are different, but if I put in the only raise pre flop and I catch something good, I'm definately betting it.

It's interesting to see that my overbet river shove on hand #3 in the other thread is obviously a desperation bluff that you guys hate, and this one everybody wants to fold.

This was a real hand that someone played against me. I didn't have 66 or 56s. I think there's a pretty good chance I'd fire at least on the turn with both of those hands. I had 74s and fell as backwards into the nut straight. Villain called with the 6s and 5s.

I bet the river because I'm betting a hand that I won't fold against a lagtard in this situation. Otherwise I am checking figuring my opponent will be betting on this board to take it down or will put me in this position to make a tough decision with a not so strong hand. Now that he has overbet the pot on the river so dramatically, I try to remember hands that he did this with. BTW, I am a moron for not betting the flop or turn.

I've seen him overbet a few times, but the one that keeps coming to mind is when he tried to bluff a CS on a four club board with K7 of hearts and no pair. I've also seen him try to push people off of hand many many time successfully and unsuccessfully and shown down some medium pairs when he thought his opponent was weak. Opponent could easily show down TT or 99, but he bets the whole time with a set on the flop with a flush and straight draw out there.

So, I call it. Opponent has either TT, 99, a straight(chance is low but there), or some kind of overplayed bluff because he thinks I won't call.
