i like it.

if arlene had four cards to a 6 low, then you were potentially making a very powerful play when your 5 paired -- if that was a card arlene was drawing two, it effectively killed two (and maybe three) outs. also, if s/he couldn't beat your pair of 5s showing, then s/he was drawing think to chop, so there was little incentive to continue.
