I don't think checking is that weak. Yes, its doubtful that he has a flush since he checked the river, but that's a slight possibility. He could have hit the 8 to beat you. A busted straight draw obviously folds. I'm not sure what he calls w/ that you beat. Maybe QJ or JT, but that's about it. I'd check behind given that you both have a lot of chips behind.

If I bet I bet $80, but I am a wuss and I checdk behind. I think the flush wouuld have bet that river. Most times.
The problem with the bet is that it had put $130 of your stack in the pot and if he reraises you, you are beat for sure. The analisys should resume to how often is he checking that river with a made hand.
