Tough hands

Postby iceman5 » Thu Aug 03, 2006 4:08 pm

Im going thru one of the toughest streaks of bad luck and tough hands of my life. Its probably the second worst Ive seen. Ive played any where from $200NL to $1000NL on and off during this streak. Luckily, every time I move up to $400 or $1000 , I win and win back what I just lost at $200. Im break even over the past 18 days which covers about 8000 hands at all levels.

Currently Im down 5 buy ins although its only $420 because Ive won at higher stakes and lost at lower stakes. Anyway, here are a couple tough hands for evaluation.

#1) Im trying out WSEX 5 max $1/$2 NL....I open raise to $10 with QQ. The SB reraises to $58. I push for $220.

#2) Cutoff raises to $6. I call in the SB with [8s][7s]. We're heads up with $180 effective stacks.

Pot $14 Flop [5d][5s][6c]. I lead $10 and he calls.
Pot $34. Turn [9s]. I bet $20 and he min raises to $40. I push.

#3) Prima $1/$2 6 max.....Cutoff min raises to $4. I reraise to $15 with KK. He pushes all in for a full $200. I call.

#4) Cutoff min raises to $4, I call with 99. 2 more callers.

Pot $16. Flop [5d][5c][3d] Checked to min raiser who bets $2. I raise to $20 and hes the only caller.
Pot $56. Turn [7s]. He checks. I push (he has about $70 left).

#5) $2/$4 NL. I just sat down and have 45 offsuit in the SB. I complete after 3 limpers.

Pot $20. Flop [6s][7d][8s]. I lead $16 and get 4 callers.
Pot $100. Turn [Qc]. I bet $85 and get one caller. Any problems here? The caller has $90 left and Im planning on pushing the river unless its a [s].

#6) $2/$4 NL. I open for $15 on the button with JT. BB calls.

Pot $32. Flop J33. He checks and I bet $24. He calls.
Pot $80. Turn T. He checks, I bet $42 and he pushes. Its $70 to me. I call.

#7) $2/$4 NL...I raise to $16 with QQ. Shorty calls.
Pot $38. Flop AKJ. Check / check
Pot $38. Turn J. Check / check
Pot $38. River K. Check...he pushes in for $67. I call.

Sorry for all the hands, but I really need an honest evaluation of these hands as Im having a really tough streak that I cant seem to break out of and Im not sure if Im overplaying, underplaying or just getting really unlucky. (some of these are losers, some arent)

1. I'd have a tough time folding queens in 5 max, and with a reraise like that I dunno what to think. Tough one indeed, I can't fault your push I'd probably fold though.

2. I think I prefer just calling here and leading river all in. The push is too strong in my opinion, we're not folding here and I don't want an overpair to fold. This way it looks more like a busted draw.

3. Will not fold KK preflop for less than 200 bb.

4. are you the button? If so i reraise preflop. If not I lead flop, he just seems like a donk but 99 is behind a lot of hands, eh this one is tough too.

5. Looks standard, I'm not folding any river though so I'm pushing any river. You will lose value from a lot by not pushing river, since you'll be getting 4:1 i say push any river.

6. Eh i probably check turn behind. You are either way ahead or way behind here. board is pretty drawless, I want to keep it smaller.

7. eh, i'd probably lead flop 20 and fold to an all in. Call is pretty bad in my opinion wihtout any numbers or reads.

A few of these were tough but i think its pretty standard otherwise, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

1. I'd probably do the same and and be really pissed when I see AA or KK.

2. I don't like calling raises OOP with suited connectors. If he's been raising from the CO a lot I might re-raise.

3. easy call.

4. I'd re-raise with 99.

5. Looks good. If he has 9T or sucked out on a spade draw good for him.

6. Looks good.

7. I think the river is an easy fold.

I'll try this time .. :P

Hand No. 1 --- I'm not pushing with QQ preflop unless I have a solid read, and definitly not after a huge Reraise Preflop. at Best you're coin flip. I would have called.

Hand No. 2 --- Standard? I think I would have push there.

Hand No. 3 --- Standard? Unless he's a Rock with 1% PFR over the last 5k hands, I'm calling 99.99% of the times.

Hand No. 4 --- Don't think he's folding, and you're beat.

Hand No. 5 --- Not sure if I would have pushed there I am weak afraid of 9T .. What if River is a [s] ? I think even if River is a [s] I'll be calling if he push.. I want a cheap SD after this action btu don't think I'm folding. And how about if board pairs?

Hand No. 6 --- Don't know.. but I am almost sure I'm calling here.

Hand No. 7 --- I Fold.

#1
Sure, I guess you can't fold QQ 5-handed without a very good read. You could of course flat call with position.

#2
I really don't like the turn push. You're the one preaching that a miniraise on the turn is a monster, here you could be drawing to one out. Looks like he has a big hand, I think a call is better.

#3
Folding KK preflop isn't done at 6-max afaik.

#4
Mjeh... I guess you have him on a flush draw? A miniraise tends to be Axs of course, but also small/medium PP's. I prefer a smaller turn bet of like 60% of the pot and then check behind on the river.

#5
Wow, 4 callers. Well, if he had you beat he should have raised the turn so I think your line is good.

#6
I guess you're committed. You could well be ahead, if you're not you most likely have outs. I wouldn't have minded a check on the turn to make it look like I bluffed the flop.

#7
I fold. If he's the sort to bluff with a huge overbet on the river there will be better times to take his money, I think he will have you beaten here too often for you to call. Only if he's playing the board and thinking a push will avoid a split will you win, he could very well have a K, J or A (but more likely a K or J). I don't see why you didn't bet the flop though.

#1) I raised $10. A reraise to $58 looks too large to be AA or KK. If I flat call and an Ace or King flops what do I do? I think he has TT or lower....or AK. If I flat call, the pot is $120 and Im gonna fold to an overcard and get outplayed by TT?

#2) Ive been at the table for about 15 hands so no read. Why am I calling preflop? I have a suited connector, its only $5 to me and we have full $200 stacks.

#3) Nevermind. This one is an instacall.....but he had AA of course.

#4) This guy had min raised about 10 times in the last 50 hands. I reraised him about 6 times already and he called every time. I wanted to see a flop this time before I went crazy. I pushed the turn because I put him on Axs for the flush draw. The one hand he showed down after min raising preflop was A4s. I know he did it a few times with pocket pairs though.

#5) Standard I think

#6) When he pushes, the pot is $234 and its $70 to me. Thats more than 3-1 and you would fold JT on a J33T board to a short stack? Dont you think he has AJ / KJ type hand way too often to fold this?

#7) Who knows WTF he has? I went back and looked and he actualtl pushed $57 all in (not $67). This may be a bad call and Ive made a few bad river calls lately. However, he had 88.

Hand #1) I usually just call and lead any non-ace, non-king flop. I feel that maximizes your payout versus AK and minimizes your loss versus AA/KK which I don't see anyone folding.

Hand 2) Since he raised a weakass x3BB preflop I put him on a AT type hand or a small PP. Maybe A9. So by pushing I'm not sure you'll get A9 to call or TT to call but you are at risk of a full house crushing you. Mehh.

Hand3) Instacall unless he's a major rock.

Hand 4) I don't have a problem with post flop, but I'd prefer a reraise preflop since he min raised.

Hand 5) He's gonna have to show me 9T. I push.

Hand 6) I think you are beat big time. I like checking that turn too because betting the turn basically makes it near impossible to get away from the hand. I'd rather milk a little more from AJ on the river because I don't really want a big pot at this point (big pot= I'm beat IMHO).

Hand 7) I don't mind the call so much but since he's short, why not just get it in on the flop/turn?

Results.....

#1) He typed "AA?" in chat and folded to my reraise.

#2) He min raised the turn. OK, he has a strong hand most likely, but I have a straight and a redraw to a flush or even str8 flush, so I pushed into his quads.

I really liked this play until I saw the chips sliding his way

#3) He had AA and won

#4) I typed "go ahead chase your flush" as I pushed. He thought and thought and then folded. This is the same guy who I told in chat that I knew he had A4s after he min raised another hand preflop.

#5) The river was a non [s] ace. I pushed and he folded.

#6) I called and he had 63s

#7) I dont know why I called, but he had 88.

Biggest pot of my career.......

$5/$10 NL full ring

1 or 2 limpers and I limp with [Kc][Qc].

Pot $40. Flop [Jc][8c][Td]. SB bets $20, MP (has $2000) raises to $60. I have $2000 and call. SB folds.

Pot $180. Turn [Ah]. MP bets $100, I raise to $400 and he pushes his double stack in. I call with the nuts and a redraw to the flush.

Pot $4100ish. River [Js]. He wins with 88.
