This AK hand sucked.

Suggestions?? Somehow I knew this guy didn't hold the flush on the turn. I guess I should have moved in...thoughts??

1/2 Prima
I have AK in the SB. Folded to me. I raise to $10. BB calls.I have no read on him but we both have about full stacks.

FLOP $20
[8s][Ac][Tc]

I bet $20. Batard calls.

TURN $$60
[8s][Ac][Tc][7c]

I check. He bets $40. Like I said..for some reason I felt I had the winning hand. I raise him to $80. I would have bet more but I felt this bet would look more like a made flush or AA.

RIVER $220
[8s][Ac][Tc][7c][Td]

I bet my last $64. He calls.

He shows [Ts][9s] for trip tens on the river. :(

Well now at least you have a read on him. :)

I feel for you. It sucks when fish like this call you down and suck out.

I think you need to check-call the turn or lead out. Checkraising is so dangerous because on the turn you essentially have to commit your whole stack to find out whether he has a real hand or not. If you lead out for 3/4th pot, he probably can't raise there since you don't have that much left, unless he has you beat. Checkcalling followed by a small blocker on the river would work well too IMO.

There isn't a whole lot he could do about that though.
The guy thought his 10 was good and was going to play it.
It just so happens the bastard got a miracle card and sucked out.
I think you played it really well, and would have had a nice pay off if the last 10 didnt hit.

Well, it's not really a miracle card when he has 13 outs. He didn't think his 10 was good, he was semibluffing on the turn and got the odds to call for trips/straight when kenny only minraised. Such is the problem when you are checkraising in a spot like that - unless you checkraise allin it's pointless to try to move someone off a big draw.

That check-raise on the turn seems mighty weird to me. One thing to think about is wether or not you can improve just in case you are behind on the turn. If you had the king of clubs in your hand the play is a little better. You made a great read here, figuring you are ahead, but if you are going to re-raise you gotta do it for more money and stop piddling around with these min-raises (even though $wise it was a good chunk of change for the game you are playing in). Good read, bad luck, all you can do is shrug it off and re-up your stack.

BTW If you were up against me in this pot there would be 0% chance that you had the best hand on the turn.

If i were in my opponents shoes I would have folded. He could have been drawing dead at that point anyway. 13 outs shrink to nothing if I hold [Kc][Qc]. If I hold AA they are less...if I hold AK with the [Kc] his outs are less. I was representing a monster.

Sadly, at the time, I didn't know he was a complete calling station. But I'm positve he was going to call my all-in no matter how much I bet that turn.

Yoga... agreed that the [Kc] would have been a very nice card to hold.

MG..I like your idea except the calling part. I can see betting out again...but calling is so weak. I'd rather fold then call. Especially without any sort of draw.

I agree Tokenizer. Sadly, I didn't think of that while I was playing the hand. :) Next time.

Kenny,

All AK hands suck.
