3 bet the river too? 6 max

Postby Pok 7's » Fri Aug 11, 2006 10:34 am

For some reason I wussed out here on the river, I was thinking MAYBE I was in a set over set scenario from the way he was playing. 77 or possibly 10's after the turn. I figured even an over pair would slow down a little at some point. Pretty LAG player (for some reason he's not showing up in my PT) but VPIP IIRC was mid 40's or so.

as usual, this is read dependent.

you are losing to any 9, 46, 77, 88, and TT. you beat everything else.

if you have EVER seen this guy act up like this, you have to value reraise the river and curse if he's ahead.

i hope you made notes...

well, i'm a donkey who can't read boards... so fvck off. i already told everyone that i read boards good.

also, donk -- who i pwned at lhe -- he has A5. literacy has it's advantages.

so 46, 69, and 9J and the three PPs beat you.

i'd jam the river all night long unless villain is squeaky tight (rare at low limit 6-max).

I dunno, id have played it like Pok did probly. Youve lost to a higher set in this spot prolly 50% of the time at least. I mean, people are sayin 'he played it like an overpair.', but I have to ask, how many players REALLY four bet an overpair on the turn in that spot? Its not that uncommon for high limit pros to do this when playin each other, but your average and even your aggressive SH party player rarely ever fourbets turn/raises river with a single overpair. HL pros have logged a trillion hands with one another, have a much better feel for where theyre at inna hand, and try to push marginal edges as hard as they can. Your average partydonk dont do this though.

Against an aggressive player i will gladly threebet an O/P, but if i raise and GET threebet, Ive gotta know the mizor in n out to cap it (ive definitely doneit before, but ya gotta know your mizor for this)- or i may capit to try and get a free showdown (and bet if i catch whats probly a two outer) but if he hosed my plan by firing again, id never popit again-

If the guys ultraLAG, then maaaybe, but an additional problem is that your likely going to win only one bet if your ahead and lose two bets if your behind (he'll prolly cap it with a bigger set)- which means you oughta be pretty damn sure youve got best hand to do it--And for me, the turn four bet and the raise of the river valbet after the cap wuold be enough to make me just call.

I think you played it fine. The guy happened to be a maniac, which is great. IF you had the read previously that he was a bonafide madman, then by all means, three bet his ass in this spot- but if hes just a 40% LAG type who hasnt shown himself to be downright maniacal, i would definitely not repop him here.

I have to agree with those that say "ram and jam". He sure wasn't betting like someone on a draw, so the straight doesn't particularly worry me. If it's set over set, then that sucks, but that's poker. Unless you know your oponent to be tight, I say get your money in.
