I hate middle pairs but what do you do here. Bad play?

I get dealt

I planned on raising to about 4x the BB which would have been $2

but its folded to MP1 raises to $8. Then folded to me. The guy is a Maniac, he's been leaking money around the table all night with 2 and 3 dollar Pre Flop raises holding rags or a weak suited Ace... But this was his biggest one so I put him on a Middle pair like me.
So I call.

Flop:

I was rather perplexed by this flop as he could've easily held either an A or a T and I was beat. But i had to find out so I bet the pot ($18) because I wanted to either win there or show that I wasnt going to be pushed around by the bully. I figured if he calls Im in a Check/ Fold situation. If he re-raises it's an easy fold. How would you guys have played this i think it seems like a really loose aggressive play, and that's not really my style. But it paid off, He mucked it.

A lot of maniacs hate it when you bet full pot at them. He has to work to put you on a hand and obviously he's scared of the board as much as you are. Nice job.

Nice job chasing him, but I would've folded preflop... I play JJ like any mid pair, which means I like to get in cheap and kill em when I hit... As long as you were willing to check/fold with a call/raise here, I think this is an allright play... I'm just a little too tight and a little to cheap to try it...
