My opponent in this hand hasn't been at the table for long and leaves after this hand. The one thing I've noticed is that he's way over-aggressive and will take stabs with almost anything. He also raises a LOT, and I don't think he could resist raising or re-raising AA, which eliminates one hand to which I'm in trouble.

I still don't think I would have CB here if it weren't so short-handed by the time we see the flop. I also feel like my 99 makes the one serious draw very unlikely, also speaking for a CB. Anyhow, the only serious draw on this board has to have a 9T in it, and I have two of the nines.

On dealing with the c-r, I'm way behind to JJ and AA but don't consider AA likely. I'm also pretty far behind to lower sets, but I at least have 4 outs on those, and I'm not going to have to go very deep to find out what he has. Basically, the risk is relatively small, villain is over-aggressive, and I feel like I'm either a little ahead or a little behind most of the time. By that point, it only costs me $17 or so for a shot at a pot of almost $90.

The main reason I'm posting this is that I feel like I have a lot of work to do on what I like to call "scrappy pots," where I don't have much of a hand but it's still worth taking a shot at.

It looks like it costs you more like $21 or so to me?

Anyhow, if there's any more money involved I think you need to have a damn good reason to continue but here you can't really lay down with that sort of money in the pot to someone you think is potentially bluffy. Your hand is pretty garbagey but you're in decent shape against (say) two pair and only really -EV against a set (or I'd guess marginally to AA but not by much). Even against middle or bottom set you're not making a major mistake by calling. This becomes a much harder decision with more money to bet (at which point I'm leaning towards folding against pretty much every opponent under the sun).
