I raise to $40 with JJ and get called by the button and SB.

I know nothing about the SB but the button is a fish. He called my last raise with 86 and then called the flop which was K6x. We checked it down from there. he called someone elses raise with 84s and called 2 streets with bottom pair on a Q84A board. I think he called the flop and river. It was a fairly big pot.

So the pot is $120. Flop [4c][2d]. SB leads $60. I raise to $160. the button cold calls and the SB folds.

Pot $480. Turn . How do you play this from here? We both have about $800 left.

I bet $300 and look to get the last $500 in on the river. I put him on an 8 and he's unlikely to have 2 pair, so I'll play for my stack here. No way to tell if he's beating me since he won't raise and I don't want to give him a free card.

against a normal player i'm pretty much done with the hand.

against a fish i probably bet 300 and see what happens.

I'm not excited about this board against a player who's playing lots of suited little cards. 86 is now double-gutted, 85 is significantly ahead (although you have outs vs. 2 pair) and there are also two flush draws which he can have.

I'd be rather tempted to check-call, despite giving him a potentially dangerous free card (he'll call you anyway, right?).

It just seems to me like you can't really protect your hand. I'm not eager to get it all-in, and it looks like he's pretty passive. I don't see that much difference between your betting $350 and his betting that or less. I think I'd probably call whatever he wants to be all the way through the river. With an additional read of some sort, you might also be able to call when still ahead and lay down when you're beat (don't know how he's going to be 2 pair here).

My main motivation is really keeping this pot as small as possible and just hoping for the best.

I also agree with Kenny about that. I think you've shown plenty of strength on your overpair. If he checks behind on the turn, I'll call the river.

I know this sounds like (and is) a very passive line. But I don't see what difference it really makes who is doing the betting. I'm not sure you're even ahead with all those rags out there.

For me, this is purelyl a "pot control" line.
