Yesterday I played .25/.50 NL on UB got up to about 2x the buy-in and then took two very hard hits over a period of about 5 hands. I don't think I played these hands poorly but I need some reassurance because my confidence is dwindling....

Hero is the button ($115)
Villian is MP1 with ($61)

Everyone limps to Villian who makes it $2 to go its folded to me and I call with

It is then Folded to the raiser.

Flop comes

Villan bets $2, I call thinking that ill call such a small bet to see if a 5 hits on the turn and if it does I will break this guy with his trip A's...

Turn comes

Now I'm way ahead so I pray this guy will make a big bet so I can smooth call it and push when a blank hits on the river

Villan bets $15 I call- this could've been a mistake but he would have called any bet I made and this loss could have been even worse.

The guy now has 2 outs an A or Jack...because a 5 gives me quads- The jack hits.

He pushes his remaining stack in and I have to fold. I knew he had the Ace.

I know I just got done pissing and moaning about this hand, but I decided that i was playing a bunch of guys who will play any high pair and this could really turn out profitable.

I call the blind and get 2 callers behind me, everyone else folds.

Flop:

I lead out for the pot and both Villians call

Turn is a blank, did nothing for any draw it was low.

I bet the pot again one guy folds his K 9 and the other calls

The river is a

I bet the pot again hoping for a call... He calls and won with two pair Kings And Queens
My lead out bets were justified as, this guy has come over the top of very bettor with a set.


Were these hands poorly played, should I have been less aggressive with these hands..

Hand #1....FOLD on the flop. Dont try to chase a 2 outer.

Hand #2....You played this won just fine. How did you know the guy folded K9?

#1 wasnt i getting good implied odds by calling a small bet knowing he had an ace.? O maybe not.

The pot was about $7 and you called a $2 bet. The most you can win here is a total of $63 or so. So your getting 32-1 implied odds if you are 100% sure you can bust him if you hit.

The odds of hitting that 5 are about 22-1. Theres no way youre going to break him everytime. What about when he has KK? What if he already has AJ? What if he hits his kicker with a AQ? What if another ace hits the board?

You both would have to be WAY deeper before calling that $2 makes any sense. I dont think he could BE deep enough for me to call it. Because if you both had $10,000 and you hit the 5 and a raising war starts....are you THAT confident that he doesnt have AJ? or AA?

He did show after I folded and he held a suited A 2...but you're right I wasnt 100% that I would hit or that he didnt already have AA or AJ because both would constitute a preflop raise and the "please call me bet" on the flop.

Hand 1- One more point to make here is even when you hit your 5 on the turn, you dont know what cards are good for you and what cards kill you. He could be raising with AJ and you are drawing dead, he could be playing AA and your pretty much drawind dead or JJ. A card like a 10 or a 9 seems like a good cards for you but he could be raising with A/10 or A/9.

Hand 2- this is just crappy luck, 3 outters on the river always suck.
