Interesting stuff here, thanks to all. It seems pretty clear this is an EV vs Variance question. If I'd realised that at the time, I'd probably have folded. 
Anyway, I called because I've never seen a made hand played like this on these tables (Crypto), where people generally fold too readily, so I reasoned that if he'd had a monster he'd have raised instead if pushing.
I was right in that he had a draw, but he had more outs than I'd bargained for, 14 all told with his![[7h]](https://livepokerforum.com/images/smilies/7h.gif "The Seven of Hearts")
[6h], but luckily my hand held.
