Prima 200NL 6max

Sidebar Notes--Goals for Sept:
1) Resist the siren song of Tribeca and play Prima for the entire month.
2) Play AK better you donk.


I have A[h] K[d] in the CO and raise to $8. The BB calls. $200 effective stacks. BB is tight preflop and weak tight post flop.

Flop ($17). A[s] 8[s] 8[h]. He checks. I check.

Turn ($17) 3[h]. He leads $15.

Qustions:
1) Like the flop check behind?
2) What's the best way for me to raise him? Raise this turn big? Min raise turn? Call and raise the river? I'm not scared of the flush.

I'm looking at an exact hand I played last night to illustrate this point TROD.

I raise to $17 OTB with

BB is the only caller

My read on him from some lower stakes games a while back was that he was an over-aggro idiot, but he's moved up to 500NL so he cant be that bad I guess.

Flop comes , pot is $36

He checks, I bet $25, he calls.

Pot is $86 and I am putting him on a smaller ace or a pair. He would bet a flush or straight draw IMO.

Turn is , pot is $86.

He checks, I check behind, partially fearing AQ, partially because I'm either behind or he has 2 or maybe 4 outs.

River is a complete rag. He instabets $50, I instacalled and he showed 88 and MHWG.

If I bet the turn, I am either egtting raised if I am behind or he's folsing and I lose his additional 10bb on the river.

500NL is a strange animal, very few times will you jst take a whole stack .

I hold commentary until a few others have posted.

I will say this though. The guy is major league weak tight. Also, Allstar I think your hand and mine are different due to the flops. I do usually take your line though.

thats all fine TROD, BUT an observant opponent will se you check that flop heads up and think something is rotten in denmark. I would. If Ihad AQ there, you wouldnt get another cent out of me. Maybe I'm a huge donk, but if a solid, winning player checks that flop to me, in position, I'm putting him on AA or 88.

No way in hell will he fold AJ or AQ to a bet. If he'd fold it on A hi flop then why did he call it in the first place. Doesn't make a whole lotta sense there.
Bet flop, check turn, call river sounds good here.

Trod, you gotta have a hella read to (a) put him on AQ or AJ and (b) think he's going to fold to a regular CB. If you have that read, then congrats and nihan. If not, then I hate the check.

Okay... its a bit of an overstatemet to say he folds AQ/AJ to a CB. My bad. But can we say the max I win from him is the single flop CB? That's my point. There is no way I can pound every street against this guy and get paid off by AQ.

By waiting to CB on the turn, I can win 2 bets.

If I pound the flop, I pretty much get all the hands I beat to fold. All risk, no reward. It's WA/WB.

Also, I don't agree that the only properly played hand that raises and checks that flop is AA or 88. KK/QQ/JJ are all fine to check behind on that flop. In fact, by checking the flop, that's exactly what I am telling villain I have, which makes him think his AQ is good.

Don't get me wrong. I still think pounding flops is the way to go and my aggression is just south of 5. But I just don't see any advantage here in doing so.
