I would re-raise preflop with AK only if I knew that raiser is loose, otherwise I prefer to call in position and OOP. By reraising I overrepresent my hand, people will fear AA-QQ, and If I hit TPTK it's almost impossible to win a big pot. While by simple calling with AK I've stacked people several times when they were outkicked. For this you need a good flop like A27, and some read on the player.
As someone said don't turn your AK into 72 by reraising OOP.
P.S. This is mostly for 6max.
P.S.S. In the cited example with raiser and 2 callers I would reraise in position often and fold OOP (call with AKs). AKo plays bad in multiway, so I would reraise to get it HU or 3 handed.
With AKs I can see a call in position, but I would aim mostly for 2pair+ hand, I mean I would fold TPTK if I meet resistance.
