2/4 FR flopped small flush....when exactly are you beat?

Postby Calaziar » Wed Sep 13, 2006 8:33 pm

Just when I'm practicing 'defending' fewer pots I get this sucker.... UTG has been certifiable over last 50 hands....the rest of them were too soon to tell...

Party Poker 2/4 Hold'em (8 handed) from (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 8Image, 7Image.
UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, 1 fold, CO calls, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (6 SB) QImage, TImage, KImage (6 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, UTG calls, MP1 raises, CO calls, Button folds, Hero 3-bets, UTG calls, MP1 calls, CO calls.

Turn: (9 BB) 4Image (4 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, MP1 calls, CO calls, Hero calls.

River: (13 BB) 6Image (4 players)
Hero checks, UTG bets, MP1 calls, CO calls, Hero calls.

Final Pot: 17 BB

Do I take comfort that I have the fourth nut on the turn or should I have run?

Comments are appreciated.....

I guess it's situational but I think I'm folding the turn.

If MP1 and CO fold on the turn I call it down like you did because of the size of the pot, but with both of them calling, somebody's got you beat - they're not all calling with smaller flushes.

I believe you guys have it right and that once turn was called multiple times I should fold...but just to let you know the insanity of trying to make 'intelligent' reads at this level my flush won the pot. UTG showed 4d 6c, MP1 showed KQh, CO showed Kd 2(!)c. I don't claim the result makes my calling turn play 'correct' and my river call isn't correct in any other sense than according to Sklansky's Theory of Poker we'd have all called there(of course we'd have bet out or CR'd both the turn and river if we could see all the hands). I just note it because this type of stuff happens often enough at these levels that it prevents me from making what should be (at least at a high stakes LH game) a relatively easy laydown in a pot with three other callers. Unfortunately I think I may carry the dictum to call at the river for 1 bet in a large pot too far too often. 30% of my hands where I see a flop go to SD and my win rate is 55%. How does this compare with others? (roughly 5500 hands). Thanks for the feedback btw

A 60% W$SD may mean you're folding too many winners actually. A shade over 50 seems to be the consensus sweet spot.
