Hey Tighty,
You shouldn't worry overly much about poker as a lifestyle choice; sure, you're bringing absolutely no positivity to the world with your actions, but it could be much, much worse. You could easily have chosen a career as a real estate agent, a lawyer or a politician and carried perturbation and despair in your wake everywhere you go. At least as a poker player, you get to spend other people's money without ripping them off too much. Also, you gotta think of number one first, and do whatever's best for you, providing it doesn't impact detrimentally on other people TOO much. Most jobs don't really bring a grand amount of personal respect and pleasure, and, speaking as someone who does a relatively happy-clappy helpy sorta job (I am a scientist who works on techniques for diagnosing genetic diseases in patients as a direct service for clinicians and medics who treat/counsel said patients) it's not necessarily all it's cracked up to be; believe me, if the job sucks, or in my case goes through periods of tremendous boredom and lack of motivation, no amount of personal pride or satisfaction in the ends will make up for the means being pretty crappy.
No-one will significantly mourn your loss if you'd stayed in the same dead-end job forever; believe me, there's lots of people in the world who are readily capable of pumping gas. You can easily find satisfaction and personal pride in other areas of your life, such as family (OK, so maybe lying to your parents on a consistent basis about your career isn't a good start...), friends, and getting laid by really hot chicks. Or, in your case, I believe your conquests would generally be refered to as "stud-muffins" and "sugar-daddies", but you get the point.
Sorry, I couldn't resist throwing in the token gay jibe. Sue me. Oh that's right, you're not a lawyer. Damn good job. Nice career choice!
If all fails you can always become a contract killer. But not a lawyer. That would truly suck. Piracy is an option too, yarrrrrr.
Basically, what I'm saying is that you can do an awful lot more in life to be proud of than work 9-5 in a job, no matter how worthy. There's gotta be more to life than work, and that's why being able to play online poker for 5 hours a day instead of a "real" job could and should open up a lot of other cool avenues in life. So stop whining!
Hope that "straightened" you out, son, though I realise in your case that ship might've sailed...
Shit, there I go again.... Once more I can only offer my most insincere apologies for that rather obvious sleight on your character.... Sorry, mate!
