200NL, 6max turn decision

This is not my hand but it seemed very interesting, as the player who played it, a very good player, decided to check turn, while IMO it is an obvious bet there.
Reads on opponent - stationish.

Full stacks.

Hero has [Ts] [9s], and raise first in OTB to 7, villian calls in the BB.

Flop (pot 15): [9d] [7s] [6c]
BB checks, Hero bets 12, BB calls.

Turn (pot 39): [3s]
BB checks, Hero checks???

IMO hero should bet here as he has a billiion of outs if he is behind, he also can be ahead. And importantly if his draw hits (and with this ammouns of outs it will happen very often) he can win a huge pot by building it on the turn.

Thoughts?

i would think that a check here is pretty standard against the villain you describe. i think hero is rarely ahead here, and a passive villain can easily have QQ/JJ/TT/A9. passive donks also love the check/call flop, check/raise turn line with a straight/set. so i think you get smacked here on the turn a good % of the time when you bet.

if villain is tighter, better, and working to put you on a hand, then i like a bet. your hand is pretty well disguised, and i think you can get a decent villain to fold JJ/TT/A9 with a turn bet, and a decent villain is less likely to check/call flop, check/raise turn with a set/straight.

i also think you overestimate how much you'll get paid on your outs. an 8 makes the board look pretty scary, and even idiots are learning how to tell when a flush is possible.

(Edit: All stuff ua1176 said just above me.)

I don't think you should think about building a big pot with this hand. You're not drawing remotely to the nuts in any direction, and your opponents hand isn't defined at all.

On the other hand your hand is going to be best in a small pot almost all the time.

I think I'd check behind against a stationish opponent, and go for value on the river.

The reason for betting here would be to end the hand imo, not build the pot. If villan is a calling station as described he isn't going to fold, thus I think a check is a good play.

A check is often very good here.
You control the size of the pot with a hand that has some showdown value, and also don't risk being raised off your hand which picked up a lot of extra camoflaged outs.
