3/6nl FR on stars.

i have $600, UTG covers me. He seems like a good TAG player. I haven't really noticed him getting out of line before. he's 17/6 with a solid win rate over a few hundred hands.

he opens to $18. UTG +1 calls. i reraise to $72 with [Ad]. UTG is my only caller.

$171 pot. HU. flop comes [8s][5s]. he checks, I bet $100. he calls after a few seconds.

$371 pot. HU. turns the . ugly. He checks. I check behind.

$371 pot. HU. rivers the . he checks again. I bet $200.

Thoughts?

FWIW, i put him on a big pair, with the UTG raise and then calling my reraise OOP. That's the reason for the small flop bet. with the scare card on the turn i was planning to call a bunch of river bets, however since i think he also put me on a big pair, i didn't expect him to bet into me. When i was right I tried to figure out the amount he could call if i bet.

I'm still not sure about the play in the hand, but at the time it all felt right.

Your flop bet is a bit small for my tastes... I would be looking at $130-140.

On the turn, I would probably bet because we're mostly ahead and a fourth spade could leave us getting no more action.
But a check is a reasonable line too.

Yeah after thinking for a bit it's Redicilous to think he could have a flush on the turn. AKs is impossible since you have the As and i can't see him call with his stats with 67s or KQs.

my reasoning behind the turn check was that i felt sure he held an overpair. That being the case, i think he's going to fold hands like TT-QQ here when i continue my betting on the turn. Like i said with the read, i think this guys good, so I need to mix it up a bit more.

Since i'm feeling confident that he has 2 outs (possibly even 1 out), and since i've got position, i wanted to find a way to keep him in longer. At the time i thought that checking the turn against a solid player was the best way to get him to put in more cash. I'm not worried about protecting my hand given what i think he's holding. At this point i'm just considering the best way to get him to put more money into the pot.

I like the turn check, like the river bet.

Looks like a cautious overpair who didn't fall for the flop trap?

He tanked before asking if i was value betting AA, tanked a little more and called with QQ.

I think as played i got maximum value here, but I wonder if anyone would have played it differently at the time.
