Opponent starts the hand with $45 and has done nothing remarkable, except that he's a bit passive. He's raised one or two hands preflop when it was limped to him, but he hasn't shown down anything yet. I'm guessing that when he raises preflop his range is something like AQ+, 99+.

I have KK on the button. One limper, shortstack makes it $4, I make it $15. Everyone folds, shortstack flat calls.

Flop: (pot=$31): [8c][4s]. Opponent bets his remaining $30. I called.

Do you typically make this kind of call against an average shortstack player or is this spewing?

You have to think what would he call $15 with preflop which is a 1/3rd of his stack and then push the flop with?

If hes semi decent like u say, a semi decent ace I can see or more than likely AA-JJ,

i dont think its a great call, but it is a little tough when u run into these spots with Kings.

Hmm - by betting the amount you did you put yourself in a tough spot as if he is aggro he may well bet any flop (as the pot = the rest of his stack and he may feel pot-comitted).

I think that would probably have to lay it down here as Ax is so likely, but next time against a shortie just push it all in pre-flop with any big pre-flop hand (except maybe AA - then the $15 raise is great just because is gets him so close to pot-comitted)

Yeah this was not a great play. Maybe I don't get the shortstack strategy yet, but normally the shorties tend to push allin with big aces or biggish pairs, as flat calling commits a decent part of their stack and may put them in an awkward spot on the flop.

Anyhow, he had KK as well, for a split pot. Anyone see why he chose to bet out instead of check-call?
