Couple of points;

1) I'm just not sure what you are trying to catch when you limp in with [A2], other than maybe a low straight. An Ace on the flop means you are vunerable to someone with a better kicker and surely you are not hopping to catch a 2. To be honest even if you hit a straight, it's the lowest possible straight, so it's still vunerable. Personally when I'm on my game and thinking straight, I fold hands like [A2] pre flop. I find that eventually one of these marginal hands will put you in awkward situation where you risk losing your full nights winnings, if you make the wrong move. Then you get annoyed at yourself, start trying to win it back and suddenly you are on tilt.

2) One of the best pieces of advice I've ever been given is to think about what you are trying to achieve when you make a bet. Are you trying to win the pot there & then, trying to build a pot or looking for information etc. You also need to be thinking ahead, what if my opponent does X, what if he does Y, what if X card comes next etc. It's difficult to do, particularly online when the game is so fast, but it definately makes you a more succesful player.

With this in mind I can see why you low bet the flop and you are a little unlucky that a second 8 comes on the turn, but once it does the alarm bells must start ringing in you head and as the others point out, you've got to rethink your strategy.


3) Finally, I have to agree with Allstar7, excession's reply is excellent. Nice work dude.

However for those of us who are completly thick, can you explain how you calculate the odds you've quoted. Chances of getting [AA] = 220:6. Chances of [KK] being against [AA] 43:1.

Not arguing with you on these odds - just looking for more detail.

1, fold preflop...TERRIBLE hand to play.

2, WEAK BETTING! Don't bet the turn that weak...either check or bet more strongly...what would he call that flop with? Probably an 8 or some pocket pair...maybe overcards, who knows? If you bet strong and he calls, you can shut down...if he raises, fold...but you don't gain info with a weak bet.

3, that river is a stupid call when you only have 5 invested. You're risking your stack to at BEST chop this pot. So, your EV is at BEST half the pot before the river action...at worst it's your whole stack. Your hand is now 88822...any pocket pair beats you...just fold, it's not worth it.

Ex...the odds of you being dealt a pair are 16:1...so the odds of at least one person at the table being dealt a pair is 16/6:1 = 2.67:1...right?

You forgot that there are 13 different combinations of pairs...so it's 1326/6/13/6 = 2.83 (the diff between this and 2.67 is I rounded off the earlier value).
