Good fold?

Postby Rhound50 » Tue Dec 07, 2004 2:58 am

I have been over this hand many times in my head so maybe you guys can help me out. I was playin at $100 Nl table at Oceans 11 near San Diego. I am on the cut off and get KK three limpers in front, than the fourth the guy right in front of me doubles the blinds and makes it 6 to go. I raise to $20 everyone calls. The flop comes off QJ9 rainbow. Which would seem to be an Ok flop for me, adding a gut shot draw to my over pair. The guy from UTG goes all-in. He has $150 or so and I have him covered. It folds to me and I thought for a while and folded. My first instinct was that I only had $20 invested it wasnt worth losing another $150. I didnt have much info on my opponant he had just sat down less than an hour before. He did show down an early postion limp with Q/10 off. To me that all-in on the flop was protecting something. The reason I folded was my first incticnt was that he flopped a set and didnt want to get sucked out with a str8 draw. The more I think about it though I am starting to think I made a bad laydown. It was quited likely that he was playing A/Q it seems to fit the call with players behind him in the pot preflop. If he has flopped the str8 all in is a really bad play IMO, i would check to the raiser and hope he had AA or KK and my str8 makes him go broke. Another thing I thought of is its not a horrible semi-bluff with A/J. A pure bluff seems unlikely with that flop and that many people in the hand. Any comments

I think its a good fold. He made that move with nomerous people still to act which normally means a pretty good hand (not a straight). He probably had a pair and draw which puts him about even money with you.

Are you saying when everybody calls, are you counting SB, BB, and the button? Because w/ seven players, and three cards in the playing zone on the flop, I think this fold is obvious. QJ, Q9, J9, KT, T8, QQ, JJ, 99 all have you beat plus the draws that people could have also might have you beat...I can't imagine UTG goes all-in here w/o at least two pair or more...since UTG did go all in, he is probably protecting his hand of two pair or a set against straight draws as well. Even against 4 other players, I still think you have to lay this down. Especially since the one hand you did see him have was QTo. If he can limp w/ that in EP, he can limp w/ alot of hand that can beat you here.

Definitely a good fold, best hand before the flop does not automatically mean best, one of those limpers is bound to smacked in the face with that flop.

My first thought of what UTG had is QT for the open ended draw plus top pair. He was hoping for everyone to fold but if someone did call, he still had a way to win. With a coordinated flop like that, you have to fold KK to that much money. If he didn't have you beat already, he certainly had a draw to beat you.
