the best reason for the raise is if the opponent won't always call with overpairs. and some opponents won't. AA/KK will probably almost never fold. but i know that against certain players i'll fold TT/99/88 (sometimes even JJ) to a healthy flop raise on a board like that.
also a secondary reason is that if villain routinely fires 2 or 3 barrels with missed overcards, raising the flop (while not the most +EV way to play the hand), is definitely the simplest and cheapest way to deal with things if you don't feel like getting outplayed.
i would agree that if you don't think villain will ever fold overpairs, then this raise is pretty bad.
