$50 PLO8: All-in preflop

Postby MattSk » Tue Oct 17, 2006 4:25 pm

I was not happy about the all-in raise from the small stack because he reopened the betting round. But could anyone fold here? After the max reraise from villain I guess that I am in a raise or fold situation. What is the best play against an unknown villain (only 14 hands in db) ?

- Brglez sitting in seat 3 with $49.50

Hero called - $7.15
wimo folded
reddy26 folded
Brglez folded
fergee raised - $30.35
Hero raised - $99.95
fergee went all-in - $57.21

** Dealing the flop: T[h], 8[h], J[h]

** Dealing the turn: 3[d]

** Dealing the river: 3[c]

fergee shows: 4[s], A[s], 2[c], A[c]

I was surprised how much I was dominated in this spot (ev was only 30 percent).

a raise and a reraise often signals AAxx.

the hand you played, while it hit, plays better multi-way rather than HU in a big (side)pot. it's not a crime to fold A2xx of you're not getting good odds to see the flop and get paid off.

your all-in is something plo8 players with the AA24 dream of -- there's no need to feed these dreams.

in generally, i will *never* fold [Ks] [2h] [Ah] [6s] pre-flop. i will want to see a flop with the hand. now, if in a 3 way pot my opponents force me all-in to see that flop so be it. i'll gamble and in a 3 way pot it's usually about an equity toss up. in a heads-up pot you will almost always have the option of simply calling and closing the action to see a flop for a small price. unfortunately, in your case the worst of both situations occurred. it's 3 way action when the betting is re-opened, but you now have to pay a huge price to see a flop heads-up in the side pot. you should probably fold in this situation now, although honestly i never do it. fergee had about the strongest possible hand both in general and relative to yours, that's why you were crushed. no biggie, just suck out on him. nh.
