I see Ice touch on this every once in a while, and was curious of others thoughts about it... I mean, most of these guys are SOOOO friggin aggro that they'll 3 barrell w/ air VERY often... I get about 10 opportunities like this a game...

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.50/$1
5 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $193.15
CO: $239.30
Button: $92.25
Hero: $90.50
BB: $111.55

Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is SB with Image Image
2 folds, Button calls, Hero calls, BB checks.

Flop: Image Image Image ($3, 3 players)
Hero checks, BB checks, Button bets $3, Hero calls, BB folds.

Turn: Image ($9, 2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $5, Hero calls.

River: Image ($19, 2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $12, Hero calls.

Results:
Final pot: $43
Hero showed Ad 5c
Button showed Kd 9s

The conditions that I would say I do this is...

a) I'm OOP
b) I have some kinda TP, usually a weak A or K
c) the one that did the betting is CO or button...

I don't know if it's just an extra donky sample that I've been playing against or what, but I'll get 3 barrelled by 9 high 100 times if I let them...

And, normally my 6max numbers are like 19/7, so I'm not really calling all that much.. But, no one seems to notice... And, I understand that this has a bigger chance that I'll get outdrawn... But the times that I get 9 high to bet off $30 just seem to outweigh greatly the amount of times I get busted by a real hand...

Thoughts?

Calling down is ok against an aggro player, IF you can control the pot size. In this example he bet a nice callable ammount on every street.

When I encounter such behaviour (people trying to call me down) I start to overbet pot on every street, so that I can push by the river. Normally after one or two tries they start to fold to the first bet if they don't have a real hand. (If not I bust them :).)

Okay that makes sense... But imagine that instead of playing with a thinking, intelligent poker player like yourself, you're playing w/ 5 12 year old chimpanzees with Down's Syndrome... ie, they're not paying attention like in the slightest...

I would say the general betting pattern, in a limped pot, is usually gonna be like $3, I call, then $5-9, I call, maybe $15 on the river... I guess another downside would be that if villian was in fact doing what you say you do (ie... overbetting to make it harder to sponge), it would become impossible to call large turn bets w/ TPWK and such... BUT, if I had just led out and gotten called, whats the gameplan after that??? Check/call turn, which is prolly gonna be a pretty significant bet, as now he's trying to push you off the pot???

Ok here is a reason not to attempt this strategy. Villian in this hand CBs every street so I thought I'd let him hang himself.

Texas Hold'em $.50/$1 NL

Seat 2: SB ($115.00 in chips)
Seat 5: BB ($68.30 in chips)
Seat 8: Hero [Kd],[Kh] ($150.40 in chips)
Seat 10: BTN ($54.25 in chips)

PRE-FLOP
Hero bets $4, BTN folds, SB folds, BB calls $3.

FLOP [6s],[4h],[6c]
BB bets $1, Hero calls $1.

TURN [6s],[4h],[6c],[7s]
BB bets $3, Hero calls $3.

RIVER [6s],[4h],[6c],[7s],[6h]
BB bets $10.30, Hero calls $10.30.

SHOWDOWN
BB shows [ 7D,7H ]
Hero mucks cards [ KD,KH ]
BB wins $36.10.

SUMMARY
Dealer: BTN
Pot: $37.10, (including rake: $1)
SB loses $0.50
BB bets $18.30, collects $36.10, net $17.80
Hero loses $18.30
BTN loses $0

wreck no offense but that is the most obvious spot ever to raise the flop. its hard for him to be CB bluffing when you're the preflop raiser.

as far as the OP...against an aggressive opponent this line is fine. against a tight opponent i would generally c/f the flop in a limped pot on this board.
