I would be willing to bet alot of money that Sklansky has NOT won more money than me relative to the stakes he plays and how much he plays.
He writes book after book, including several tournement books but how often does he make final tables? Maybe he has some non televised ones, but Ive seen him one time on TV and he did nothing special. People like Negreanu and Chan and plenty of others are much better tourney players than he is. I dont know if he even plays cash games. If he does, hes not making any noise in them or you would hear about it.
There are many many many people who would be better suited to be giving out poker advice that he is. Hes making his money writing books, not playing poker.
Im sure he is smarter than I am and probably knows more poker theory than I do, but Im not convinced for a second that he can out play me and Im pretty sure that he would get crushed in most high stakes online games.
I mean, who the hell is he? Hes a writer. Big deal. Why his word means anything to anyone is beyond me.
I can think of about 100 people that I would rather write a book about poker. People who are in the trenches everyday.
As far as the idea of calling a bet just to see if the guy will bet again, I can see that in certain spots, but this hand isnt one of them. Without knowing exactly what he meant, it sounds to me like hes talking about floating a flop which he didnt exactly invent.
