Six Max Strategy

Postby Thxlbx » Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:56 am

I found this thread at over at 2+2, seems like some really good stuff for six max. Roy says it is gold, so I figured I would post it up here. What do the rest of you six maxers think?

"#3 pencils and quadrille pads."
- Seymoure Cray (1925-1996) when asked what CAD tools he used to design the Cray I supercomputer; he also recommended using the back side of the pages so that the grid lines were not so dominant.

"Interesting - I use a Mac to help me design the next Cray."
- Seymoure Cray (1925-1996) when he was told that Apple Inc. had recently bought a Cray supercomputer to help them design the next Mac.

I think it's playing by numbers advice based mainly on 'always open raise' dogma.

Open limping in 6 max is a very very big sin. DO NOT OPEN LIMP. Open raise

and then CB 75-90% of the time?

bah..when I go home I'll post some stats for open limping from my current DB and we'll see how bad it is..

I agree with Tien and think open-limping is pretty terrible. CBing 75-90% of the time also seems pretty optimal.
Poker is silly.

It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.

To be fair, he was referring to button and CO when it's been folded around to you....

Great article, after reading the whole thing.

I think reading and implementing this article will help the vast majority of BTPers who (imo) are slightly on the w/t side due to the advice given on this site. I used to be guilty of this too up until a few months ago when I started getting a lot more aggressive and this post just further reinforced that aggression and position are the two most key factors in SSNL 6max Online games.

Well I'm up open limping overall and from the button am actually doing better limping than raising (!) but my sample size is small as I just started a new DB 2 weeks ago - also the limping stats are liklely slanted by my proclivity to try the limp push with premium hands from EP..

Thing is whenever I see some 'received wisdom' about poker something inside me wants to empirically test it out before I believe it - even if, as usually happens, the received wisdom turns out to be right, testing it and proving it to my own satisfaction helps me understand much better why it is right...

So yes the advice in the article seems standard 6 max stuff and I see a lot of players playing that way...but I feel happier playing sLAG with a lot of limping than by the book TAG.

Remember these same people for years said that TAG was the most profitable style at SSNL - but we know that was wrong and sLAG's won at a 30% higher rate over huge DB's...
