I like the raise on the flop because it gives you control of the hand. You raise another $120 on the flop it gives villian bad odds to call on a draw. If he pushs you fold and you save $105. If he calls you check behind on the turn, if he leads into you its an easy fold IMO amd you save money. Most people with a set would make a large river bet because they are unhappy you 3 bet the flop and checked behind.the turn. Again a fold on the river to an all in saves you $105. Ice I know you have had some sucess with the call, call, call when you think you are ahead but for me I always end up showing down a loser, either calling my way into a suckout or losing to a hand like a set here where I feel I could have gotten away from cheaper if I played it differently.

Those that have correctly pointed out the difference between live play and online have hit the nail on the head.

Here's what happens in a live game in LA at this level if I raise the flop- the hand will end up costing me my whole stack. First of all, it's only about 50/50 that the guy pushes after I raise the flop, and at that it's still far from a guarantee that he has the best hand. A push could come from JJ-QQ, AT, a straight draw, random garbage, etc. Raising for information in games like this, particularly when the stacks aren't really that deep, is a fool's game. You will almost never get any useable info from an unknown opponent.

I really believe that in the end it's better to control the pot size as best as possible in spots like this, and putting 1/3 of my stack in by the flop is not how that is done.

After reading all the arguments, I like a small reraise on the flop, to 150 or so. To get a reaction, slow him down. If he just calls you probably get the turn free. You then have to decide about calling a bet on the river.

I agree that in this hand you lost a small amount, but it was because villain played it weak. I agree with the argument that you want to define your opponent's hand on the flop better.

At 100NL and 200NL 6max, a min check raise on the flop tends to mean either 1) some kind of a draw, 2) an underpair to the board 3) complete air.

Every donkey and their mother tries it to "play back" at you from OOP: I usually call the minraise from a donkey even if I 'm just c-betting with nothing (unless it's a tight player, cause they often have something). If they got something decent they will keep on betting at least semi strong, but most of the time they check or make a weak bet and I'll bet/raise and they fold.
